Gardzienice 157

This happened in the town of Piaski wielkie on the twenty-second day of October in the year one-thousand eight-hundred sixty-two at the hour of one in the afternoon. There appeared Jan Dańko, a farmhand, twenty-four years of age, residing in the village of Gardzienice, accompanied by Wojciech [Miszlal?], a farmer, forty-five years of age, and Michał Mazurek, a farmer, thirty-five years of age, both residing in the village of Gardzienice, and he showed us a child of the male sex, born on the twenty-first day of October in the same year at the hour of eight in the evening of his wife Małgorzata née Korbus, twenty-three years of age. At Holy Baptism performed today, this child was given the names Szymon Tadeusz, and his Godparents were Michał Mazurek and Maryanna [Swidora?] in the presence of Wincenty Danko and Agnieszka Korbus. This document was read aloud to the declarants and witnesses and signed by Us because the father and the witnesses do not know how to write.
The Reverend Ignacy Krasucki, Pastor of Piaski

I don’t know if or how the Dańkos of Gardzienice are related to me, but this is the first record I’ve found for any Dańko in Poland other than my own family. Gardzienice is far enough north of Nienodowa (about 130 kilometers or 80 miles) where my own family lived that there is some doubt their relationship to me.

Józef Jan Adam Chodkowski was my 5th cousin 3X removed.

There appears to be an error in the age of Leon Chodkowski in this record. In the birth and baptismal records of Stefan Chodkowski’s children, he is listed as 60 years old in 1835, 62 years old in 1836, and 66 years old in 1839. With three records supporting the assumption that Leon was born in about 1773-1775, it is likely that his actual age at the time of this child’s death was 61, not 71. It is not clear to me who this Leon Chodkowski was, other than the fact that he was an owner of a part of Chodkowo kuchny. In any case, he was important enough to Stefan Chodkowski to be the Godfather for all three of Stefan’s children and to be a declarant at the death of Stefan’s first-born child.

In addition, this record states that Józef Jan Adam Chodkowski was one month old at the time of his death. According to this birth and baptismal record, Józef Jan Adam Chodkowski was actually only 12 days old at the time of death.
