As I expand my research on my Niedzialkowski ancestors and begin to assemble materials for a One-Name Study, I’m trying to assemble all available records on those with the Niedzialkowski surname and related surnames.

I discovered an Alien Passenger Manifest for Leon Niedzialkowski who entered New York on 04 Sep 1907.

It happened in the city of Przasnysz on the thirteenth / twenty-sixth day of August, one-thousand eight-hundred eighty-eight, at one o’clock in the afternoon. There appeared Teodor Niedziałkowski, a farmer in Golany, forty-four years of age, in the presence of Wiktor Obiedziński, a farmer in Golany, thirty-one years of age, and Franciszek Pałkowski, a peasant from Przasnysz, forty-four years of age and he showed us a child of the male sex, having been born in Golany on the ninth / twenty-first day of the present month at seven o’clock in the evening, of his lawful wife Wiktoria née Długołęcka, thirty-five years of age. – To this child at Holy Baptism performed on this date was given the name Leon, and the Godparents were Wiktor Obiedziński and Katarzyna his wife. This document was read to the declarants and to the illiterate witnesses and signed by us. –

This document is double dated: one date represents the Julian Calendar and the second date represents the same date in the Gregorian Calendar. At the time this record was written, the difference between the two calendars was 12 days. The date of birth shows this 12 day difference (9/21 August 1888) but the date of baptism shows a 13 day difference (13/26 Aug 1888). Which of the two dates of baptism is correct is impossible to tell.

There appeared Teodor Niedziałkowski, owner of a part of Golany, thirty-four years of age, in the presence of Julian Czechowski, a farmer in Golany, forty-three years of age, and Jan Las, a peasant from Przasnysz, fifty years of age and he showed us a child of the female sex, having been born in Golany yesterday at six o’clock in the evening, of his lawful wife Wiktoria née Długołęcka, twenty-eight years of age. To this child at Holy Baptism performed on this date was given the name Anna, and the Godparents were Julian Czechowski and Anna his wife. 1791 On the 16th of July, I Józef Zbikowski, existing magistrate of the Court of Vinnicen, baptized an infant with the name Feliks, son of the nobles Antoni and Wiktoria née Zbikowska Burski, a legally married couple. The Godparents were the nobles Stanisław Łada and Marianna Burska.

The child Feliks was baptized by Józef Zbikowski who was the magistrate of the Court of Vinnicen, which I believe was a Curia of the Roman Catholic Church. Józef Zbikowski may have been related to the child’s mother, Wiktoria Zbikowska.

In this record, Antoni Burski is called “Jalek”, a nickname that helps to distinguish this man from others with the same name.

In the United States, the name “Hilary” is often used as a given name for a female child. In most of the rest of the world, as in this record, “Hilary” is a name for a male child.

The year of this record is somewhat confusing. It appears in the middle of the records for 1793, but the number “3” is overwritten with the number “0”. Was Jacinta baptized in 1790 or 1793?

The Death and Burial of Wiktoria Zbikowska Burska – 1814

Wiktoria Zbikowska, wife of Antoni Burski, died on 25 Nov 1814 in Borze Marcisze, Płock Department, Duchy of Warsaw, and was buried in the cemetery of the parish church in Gzy, Płock Department, Duchy of Warsaw.

In Borze Marcisze on the 25th of November of the same year [1814], the Noble Wiktoria née Zbikowska, first married to Milewski, wife of the Noble Antoni Burski, leaving behind her widowed husband, 50 years old at death, [incensed?] armed with all the sacraments, and buried in the cemetery.

According to this record, it appears that Wiktoria was married to a man with the surname Milewski before she married Antoni Burski.
