Between two and three o’clock in the morning of the fifteenth of February in the year of the Lord eighteen-hundred forty-two, after a credible report, the third child and second son was born of Heinrich Lather citizen and baker here, of his wife Sophia Catharina née Brí¤uer. The child was baptized on the twenty-seventh of the same month where he was given the name Johannes.

          The Sponsor was:

In the afternoon of Wednesday, the first of November in the year of the Lord, eighteen-hundred twenty-six between four and five o’clock, after a credible report, the second child and first son of this marriage of [Johann] Georg Lather, citizen and butcher here in Kirtorf and his second wife Helena née Hissrich and, on the twelfth of the same month the child was baptized and given the name Reinhard.

 The sponsor was:

Reinhard Hissrich, the surviving, legitimate, unmarried son of the deceased Johannes Hissrich former citizen and miller here, the mother’s brother, in whose place, owing to his absence, his mother Christina née Formhals, stood in and signed the present document [with the clarification that she made her mark] next to the father and me, the minister who performed the baptism.

This record includes two marginal notations made by the minister after the record was written. The first corrects the father’s name by adding the first name Johann. The second clarifies the fact that the witness, Christina Hissrich, signed her name with her mark.

The following were married on the twenty-sixth of December in the year of the Lord eighteen-hundred thirty-six after presenting written confirmation from the county office and county court regarding both the civil and legal relationship, that no constraints stand in the way of the consummation of the marriage, and that all canonical requirements have been satisfied: Balthasar Lather, twenty-one years old, the legitimately born, eldest, and unmarried son of Georg Lather citizen master butcher and council member here and Elisabetha née Becker; and Elisabetha Margaretha Lather, twenty-one years old, the legitimate and unmarried daughter of Wilhelm Lather citizen and master butcher here and Christina née Reiser.

          Witnesses were:

          1) the schoolteacher, Mr. Kaspar Hook,
          2) Georg Lather, butcher here,

who have signed the present document next to me, the Pastor and Chaplain who performed the marriage.

On the night of Saturday, February twenty-sixth, in the year of the Lord, eighteen-hundred twenty-five between eleven and twelve o’clock, Katharina née Pfeiffer, widow of the deceased local citizen and wagon maker Konrad Kalbfleisch who died the 17th of January 1814, gave birth to a daughter and, on the sixth of March, the child was baptized and given the name Louise.

The father of the child has made himself known: Peter Gade, the surviving, unmarried son of the deceased Johannes Gade, former resident and blacksmith at Ernsthausen in Chur-Hessen.

          The sponsor was:
Louise Schneider, legitimately born daughter of Jakob Schneider citizen and carpenter here, who has signed the present document next to the father and me, the minister who performed the baptism.

Since the father’s father, Johannes Gade, was a resident of Ernsthausen in Chur-Hessen, I will have to learn where Ernsthausen was in order to trace the Gade ancestral line back further in time.

The following were consecrated in marriage on the twelfth of December in the year of the Lord eighteen-hundred fifty-eight without proclamation because they reported that they already had a child with each other, after written certification from the sector court and the district court that there were no civil or legal constraints regarding the marriage standing in the way and after canonical requirements were fulfilled:

Johann Georg Lather, up and coming citizen and day laborer here, twenty-seven years four months and eighteen days old [born on 24 July 1831], the legitimately born, surviving, single son of the deceased Heinrich Lather, former citizen and cow herder here in Kirtorf, and Sophia Katharina née Brí¤uer; and

Louise Gade, twenty-three years nine months and sixteen days old [born on 26 February 1825], single daughter born of the marriage of Peter Gade, citizen and wagon maker and Katharina née Pfeiffer.

The groom explained that he recognized that the bride’s illegitimate child was his own. This child, a son named Heinrich, was born on the eighteenth of October of this year and was baptized on the twenty-fourth of the same month.

The witnesses were:
1 . Balthasar Wahl, citizen and farmer here, and
2. Peter Gade, citizen and wagon maker here, the bride’s father, who signed the present document next to the bridegroom and me, the vicar and minister who performed the marriage.
