It happened in the city of Przasnysz on the twenty-first of July / sixth of August, one-thousand eight-hundred eighty-two, at one o’clock in the afternoon. There appeared Teodor Niedziałkowski, a farmer in Golany, thirty-seven years of age, in the presence of Józef Brzywkowski, a farmer in Golany, twenty-nine years of age, and Franciszek Pałkowski, a peasant from Przasnysz, forty years of age and he showed us a child of the male sex, having been born in Golany on the nineteenth day / thirty-first day of July of this year at three o’clock in the morning, of his lawful wife Wiktoria née Długołęcka, thirty-three years of age. To this child at Holy Baptism performed on this day was given the name Władysław, and the Godparents were Józef Brzywkowski and Marianna his wife. This document was read to the declarants and to the illiterate witnesses and signed by us. –

I had a difficult time with the surname of the Godfather in this record. The spelling Brzywkowski is most likely incorrect, but is as close as I am able to read it.

This document is double dated: one date represents the Julian Calendar and the second date represents the same date in the Gregorian Calendar. At the time this record was written, the difference between the two calendars was 12 days. The date of birth shows this 12 day difference (9/21 August 1888) but the date of baptism shows a 13 day difference (13/26 Aug 1888). Which of the two dates of baptism is correct is impossible to tell.

The child Feliks was baptized by Józef Zbikowski who was the magistrate of the Court of Vinnicen, which I believe was a Curia of the Roman Catholic Church. Józef Zbikowski may have been related to the child’s mother, Wiktoria Zbikowska.

In the year 1790, on the 13th day of June, I named above [Walenty Dębicki] baptized an infant with the name Hilary, son of the nobles Antoni Burski “Jalek” and Wiktoria née Zbikowska, a legally married couple. The Godparents in the Sacred Font were the Nobles Antoni Mierzecki and Teresa Bieszkowska.

In this record, Antoni Burski is called “Jalek”, a nickname that helps to distinguish this man from others with the same name.

In the United States, the name “Hilary” is often used as a given name for a female child. In most of the rest of the world, as in this record, “Hilary” is a name for a male child.

The Godparents in the Sacred Font were the Magnificent Lord Stanisław Bogusz, [Pencerna Vitopcensis?], and the Magnificent Lady Martianna Burska of Borze Strumiany.

The year of this record is somewhat confusing. It appears in the middle of the records for 1793, but the number “3” is overwritten with the number “0”. Was Jacinta baptized in 1790 or 1793?
