10 . [Mosaki]-Rukle . This happened in the village of Krasne on the seventeenth / twenty-ninth day of October in the year one-thousand eight-hundred forty-three at the hour of eight in the evening. We make it known that in the presence of witnesses Maciej Niedziałkowski, sixty years of age, and Walenty Niedziałkowski, fifty-six years of age, both owners of parts [of the village] and residing in Mosaki-Rukle, a religious marriage was contracted today between the well-born Józef Grzegorz (of two names) Grochowski, an unmarried man, residing on the noble parts in Milewo Malonki, son of the married couple, the deceased Wawrzeniec and the living Rozalia Grochowski, residing with her son in Milewo Malonki, and born in that village, twenty years of age, and the widow Paulina Chodkowska, residing in the village of [Mosaki]-Rukle on owned parts [of the village], after the death of Mateusz Chodkowski in the village of [Mosaki]-Rukle on second day of October in the year one-thousand eight-hundred forty-two, daughter of the deceased Piotr and Anna Bartołd, and born in the village of Mosaki-Stara Wieś, twenty-eight years of age. This wedding was preceded by three (one testimony) readings of religious banns on the twenty-second day of October in the parish churches in Krasne and Karniewo, and after two dispensations from the court of Biskupice were made, as well as after the oral consent of the mother of the groom, Józef Grochowski, who was present for this record of marriage, in the presence of the afore-mentioned witnesses was made. No impediment to the marriage arose. The newlyweds stated that they had made no prenuptial agreement between them. This document was read aloud to the declarants and witnesses who do not know how to write.
[signed] The Reverend Bączkowski, Vicar of the Parish of Krasne
Paulina née Bartołd Chodkowska was the widow of my 1st cousin 5X removed, Mateusz Chodkowski.
The Reverend Bączkowski made an error in this record when he wrote that there were three banns of marriage. He corrected the error in the margin by writing “one testimony” and then signing his name. This record is fairly unique in that the couple were required to obtain two dispensations from the court in Biskupice. I assume the two dispensations wer obtained to compensate for the fact that only one bann was read instead of three.
