It’s daffodil season at Filoli, an estate located 30 miles south of San Francisco.
Filoli was built for William Bowers Bourn II and his wife, Agnes Moody Bourn, who lived there from 1917 until 1936. The estate was built from the profits of the Empire Mine, a gold mine near Grass Valley, California. The estate is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Daffodils (properly called Narcissus) are among my favorite flowers, and so I took the opportunity to photograph the daffodils at Filoli during lunch on Tuesday.

What a lovely breath of spring! And I can certainly appreciate that this morning. It’s 10 degrees here with below zero wind chills. We’ve had a much snowier and colder winter than usual and I for one am ready for spring… the sooner the better!
I’m with Jasia. Our snowbanks are about six or seven feet high, and show no signs of shrinking. These pictures give me hope.
Hi Steve,
Nice photos! Do you know about Daffodil Hill in the foothills of the sierra in the town of Volcano. The area is covered with daffodils and it is free!. There are thousands of different kinds of daffodils as well as flowering trees and peacocks! you have to call to see when the best time is…it is usually several week after they bloom here in the bay area 209 296-7048 .jane.
Beautiful! Thanks for the taste of spring!
I love to see them massed like that! My snowbanks aren’t as tall as Chris’ but spring is still a long way away here. Thanks for a peak of spring!
