A wonderful vacation in the South Pacific deserves a wonderful sunset.

Really have enjoyed your Polynesian images. It is obvious you had a great time. We visited Moorea, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Huahine, and Tahiti in 1998 for two weeks. It was a wonderful vacation. I enjoyed seeing the skies in the Southern hemisphere for the first time. We have a lot of the same photos you have.
Cyclone Alan hit the islands during our stay. So many people were leaving that we got a free upgrade to an over-the-water room in Bora Bora for several nights – a fabulous offer because we were either braver or more stupid than others. Bora Bora didn’t get hit hard at all, but we saw devastation in Raiatea when we visited just after the cyclone passed. I have always remembered the stoicism and politeness of the islanders as they worked to ensure the tourists had a great vacation even while the search was on for people who went missing during the storms and expensive yachts could be seen upended in the lagoon. The people we met there were so fascinating and unforgettable. I would love to go back someday.
Thanks, Debbie! My only regret is that I never remembered to look at the southern stars at night. Perhaps that means I need to visit the southern hemisphere again!
