Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Orlando is presently trying to attract speakers with knowledge of Lithuania to share part expenses, for a Guest Speaker. JGSGO has recently designed a blog web site. jgsgo.blogspot.com provides our history as a Society for Twenty Years. We have a number of members with ancestors from Lithuania and Latvia. I personally am doing research for my Great Grandfather born in Vilnius, Gubernia, 1813-1916. He had eight sons, who immigrated to the USA and South Africa. I am in search of his vital records. Joseph William Kurland served as a military General for the Duke of Curland around 1848-53.
Please let me know if you will be in this area around Dec. 2011- May 2012. Also do you have any suggestions on some sources from Cemetery’s, Birth Certificates, etc. in searching for my Great Grandfather.
Very truly,
Jerry Kurland, Acting President, JGSGO
I have just discovered your web site. I am researching my maternal grandfather, John Stohla, from the village of Dylagowa. He was the only male child in a family with many girls and his family was in the glass making business. He left as a teenager to go to Trebisov in Slovakia (Hungary) and married there before emigrating to the U.S. My brother and I visited Dylagowa three years ago but were not able to find any relatives.
I may be interested in employing you to find out more about my grandfather. Please let me know of your interest.
Steve,
I just watched a video about cardboard furniture and it made me think of our apartment in Syracuse. So I google you at South Allen St and found your blog. Please contact me at the email above. It would be great to catch up on 38 years.

Just came across your interesting web site. Family legend tells of a Polish Countess named Isabel Winskurczewy (?) who married a wealthy German merchant Wilhelm Bowers (?). Their son Wilchelm Michal ran away from home at the age of 12 due to mistreatment by his stepmother, and was then raised by a noble family in Russian controlled Poland. He was raised as one of the boys, and became an economist on one of the estates. He married a servant girl, Agnes Dubilow(?). They escaped to America around the turn of the century Our current name of Bork may have been given at the time of Wilchelm’s adoption(?). I would greatly appreciate any helpful information.Thank you for your kind assistance. Ron Bork
Wiśniowiecka is the name that comes to my mind, and this is a princely family
Hi! I wanted to see if you had any more information on the Markiewicz and Dylewicz family’s? My grandmother (Helen) and grandfather (John Dylewicz) are mentioned in this blog ☺ï¸. So thankful to have so much information on my paternal grandmother.
