I’ve noticed a few genealogy bloggers have posted their Christmas wish lists and I don’t want to be left out . Here’s my list:
10 . A Pigma Micron Pen so I can finally write the names, dates, and places on the backs of all my photographs . Pigma ink is lightfast, waterproof, permanent, and archival-safe.
9 . The new edition of “The Source: A Guidebook to American Genealogy“.
8 . A Canon Digital Rebel XTi camera.
7 . A digital voice recorder for recording oral histories.
6 . A subscription to “Digital Genealogist” . Well, it’s only fair to ask for a subscription to this publication if I’m also asking for a digital camera and a digital voice recorder.
5 . A Dictionary of Ecclesiastical Latin . And, while we’re at it, let’s get Simple Latin for Family Historians back in print.
4 . A easy and legal way to make attractive, topographic maps onto which I can superimpose the locations where my ancestors lived, the paths of my ancestors’ migrations, and the routes my relatives traveled while in the military service . Family Atlas comes close, but it’s not exactly what I want.
3 . An autographed copy of “How to Do Everything with Your Genealogy” by George Morgan.
2 . “In Their Words: A Genealogist’s Translation Guide to Polish, German, Latin, and Russian Documents” by Jonathan D. Shea & William Hoffman, Volume III: Latin, and Volume IV: German . OK, I know they haven’t been published yet, but this is a wish list!
1 . The birth records for my grandparents Marianna Dziura (Dziurzyńska), Kostanty Niedziałkowski, and Helena Chmielewska.

I wish my list was as feasable as yours….
Mine seems to either include expensive things like your Rebel (would be quite the upgrade from my CoolPix 5400 to a DSRL) or records to help with old brick walls I’ve reached.

I enjoyed reading your list, and I bet you will get all these toys during the year and find your grandparent’s birth records as well. Hey, when you get rid of your camera, you can send it my way! I love all the photos you’ve taken. The ones at the Rural Cemetery in Albany were great, as have all the others you’ve taken. Remember you can download the first edition of Digital Genealogist, but note, there isn’t an article to be had about digital cameras. Hope you don’t go broke but if you do, enjoy your gifts!

I tried to keep the list reasonable, but I couldn’t resist including the Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the list. Who knows? Maybe I’ve been extra good this year.

I’ve been pleased with the quality of the photos l’ve been able to take with my Canon PowerShot A70, but I loved my SLR (single lens reflex) film camera and would just go nuts over a digital SLR. I’ll just have to wait until Christmas and see what’s under the tree.
I’ve taken your advice and downloaded the first issue Digital Genealogist, which I think is just superb. I did notice that there is a brief mention of digital cameras in Josh Taylor’s article on pages 16-17, but it doesn’t go into detail at all. I take this as a good sign, though, that Digital Genealogist will include articles on digital hardware in future issues.

You’d have to have been real good to get all that! I too am amazed (and amused) by all the gen-bloggers posting their list . . . makes me realized I’d better get my list going quick (and put more time into my blog that’s just off the launch pad, but not much further).
For Christmas, I’ll settle for finding the passenger arrival records for my great grandparents and a few very stubborn, but relatively recent ancestors hiding somewhere in 1920 and 1930 census records. OK – I guess my list just got started!!

I submitted my Christmas Wish List to the Genealogy Carnival coming up in about a week. It’ll be interesting to see what everyone else is wishing for Christmas!
Thanks for the link to the pen. I’ve got boxes of pictures to sort through, mark and scan. I’d love a new camera too, but the one I have does the job so maybe next year. Thankfully I haven’t yet found a need for latin! Good luck with that.
