{"id":96,"date":"2006-05-12T23:20:54","date_gmt":"2006-05-13T06:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/05\/12\/the-petition-for-naturalization\/"},"modified":"2016-05-22T17:04:38","modified_gmt":"2016-05-23T00:04:38","slug":"the-petition-for-naturalization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/96","title":{"rendered":"The Petition for Naturalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kostanty Niedzialkowski obtained a <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/IMA-Niedzialkowski-Kostanty-1935.pdf\">Certificate of Arrival<\/a> on April 5, 1935 and filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/IMD-Niedzialkowski-Kostanty-1935-1.pdf\">new Declaration of Intention<\/a> on April 27, 1935 .\u00a0 He had to wait at least three years but no more than seven years before filing a Petition for Naturalization .\u00a0 He did so on July 18, 1939.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/IMP-Niedzialkowski-Kostanty-1940-1.pdf\">Petition for Naturalization for Kostanty Niedzialkowski &#8211; 1939<\/a> included much of the same information contained in his Declaration of Intention with three exceptions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Kostanty was now living at 18 Huntington Avenue, Worcester, Worcester Co., Massachusetts<\/li>\n<li>Kostanty renounced allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly the Republic of Poland and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics<\/li>\n<li>Kostanty obtained the affidavits of two witnesses who were already citizens of the United States<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The affidavits of witnesses were signed by Walter Meleski who was\u00c2\u00a0a bartender, and Alfons Dapkiewicz who was a fireman .\u00a0 Both resided on Glacier St., Morningdale, Massachusetts .\u00a0 Walter and Alfons testified that they had known Kostanty since 1920 and that he had resided in Worcester, Worcester Co. continuously since 1920 .\u00a0 They also testified that he was a person of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/policymanual\/HTML\/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartD-Chapter9.html\">good moral character<\/a> and suitable to be admitted as a citizen of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>On March 25, 1940, Kostanty signed his <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/IMO-Niedzialkowski-Kostanty-1940.pdf\">Oath of Allegiance<\/a> and was granted a <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/IMC-Niedzialkowski-Kostanty-1940.pdf\">Certificate of Citizenship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His timing was perfect .\u00a0 In July 1940, the United States began the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/history-and-genealogy\/genealogy\/alien-registration-forms-microfilm-1940-1944\">Alien Registration Program<\/a> in which all alien residents\u00c2\u00a0over the age of fourteen, regardless of nationality or naturalization status,\u00a0were required to register at the post office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
