{"id":917,"date":"2006-12-30T21:59:05","date_gmt":"2006-12-31T04:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/30\/some-genealogical-resolutions-for-the-new-year\/"},"modified":"2006-12-30T21:59:05","modified_gmt":"2006-12-31T04:59:05","slug":"some-genealogical-resolutions-for-the-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/917","title":{"rendered":"Some Genealogical Resolutions for the New Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The year 2006 is rapidly reaching its end, and with the advent of the New Year it&#8217;s a good time to evaluate my genealogical research and prepare a research plan for the next twelve months .\u00a0 In no particular order, other than the order in which these thoughts come to mind, here are my genealogical resolutions for the New Year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the coursework for\u00c2\u00a0a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS)\u00c2\u00a0through the <a title=\"National Institute for Genealogical Studies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.genealogicalstudies.org\/\">National Institute for Genealogical Studies<\/a> \/ University of Toronto<\/li>\n<li>Hire a professional genealogist in Poland to visit Dubiecko and Dyl\u0105gowa parishes to help trace my Da\u0144ko and Dziurzy\u0144ski ancestors there (these records have not yet been microfilmed by the Family History Library)<\/li>\n<li>Renew my lapsed membership with the <a title=\"California Genealogical Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.calgensoc.org\">California Genealogical Society<\/a> and volunteer to help with one of their projects (this group has transcribed an incredible number of records from the San Francisco Bay area)<\/li>\n<li>Finish the transcription of Polish village names\u00c2\u00a0in powiat makowski for the <a title=\"Polish Genealogical Society of America\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pgsa.org\/\">Polish Genealogical Society of America<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Record oral histories from my relatives, a big project that I think is best undertaken a little at a time, but one that I need to begin<\/li>\n<li>Finish reading <u>The Peasants<\/u> by <a title=\"Wladyslaw Reymont\" href=\"http:\/\/nobelprize.org\/nobel_prizes\/literature\/laureates\/1924\/\">Wladys\u0142aw Reymont<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Attend a major national genealogical conference or genealogy cruise<\/li>\n<li>Clear out &#8220;The Box&#8221; &#8211; this pile of genealogical papers has become so large that I&#8217;m convinced they&#8217;re reproducing on their own<\/li>\n<li>Publish an updated family history\u00c2\u00a0for at least one of my family lines\u00c2\u00a0and distribute copies to my relatives<\/li>\n<li>Begin a one-name study of the Niedzia\u0142kowski surname<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whew!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m exhausted just thinking about all this!\u00c2\u00a0 I may not accomplish all of these goals in 2007, but that&#8217;s OK, too .\u00a0 A little at a time, bit by bit,\u00a0record by record, the story of my ancestors unfolds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The year 2006 is rapidly reaching its end, and with the advent of the New Year it&#8217;s a good time to evaluate my genealogical research and prepare a research plan for the next twelve months .\u00a0 In no particular order, &hellip;
