{"id":870,"date":"2006-12-14T22:30:44","date_gmt":"2006-12-15T05:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/14\/the-birth-of-anthony-chmielewski\/"},"modified":"2016-07-23T11:14:23","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T18:14:23","slug":"the-birth-of-anthony-chmielewski","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/870","title":{"rendered":"The Birth of Anthony Chmielewski"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I don&#8217;t have any information on my Chmielewski ancestors further back than my great grandparents, I do have a number of documents from the descendants of my great grandparents, most of which are from the State of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"New England Historic Genealogical Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newenglandancestors.org\/\">New England Historic Genealogical Society<\/a> (NEHGS) has posted a database of Massachusetts Vital Records up through 1910 and has digitized and linked many of the original documents to the database .\u00a0 The database is restricted to members and access to this database is only one of the many reasons I faithfully renew my membership each year.<\/p>\n<p>One remarkable aspect of the digitized\u00c2\u00a0records on the NEHGS website\u00c2\u00a0is that the images are apparently digital photographs of the original registers, not just digitized versions of the microfilms .\u00a0 The microfilm copies of these registers are generally of poor quality, but the digitized images at NEHGS are excellent .\u00a0 Compare the image in today&#8217;s post with that in yesterday&#8217;s post to see the difference.<\/p>\n<p>One of the records I found recently was that for Anthony Chmielewski,\u00a0a younger brother of Harry Chmielewski.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Birth Register for Anthony Chmielewski\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/VRB-Chmielewski-Anthony-Ful.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image868\" style=\"height: 404px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/VRB-Chmielewski-Anthony-Ful.jpg\" alt=\"Birth Register for Anthony Chmielewski\" width=\"454\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>The Birth Register for Anthony Chmielewski<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Click on the link for a PDF copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/VRB-Chmielewski-Anthony-1907.pdf\">Birth Record for Anthony Chmielewski &#8211; 1907<\/a> .\u00a0 The record states that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Anthony\u00c2\u00a0Chmielewski was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 14, 1907<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Anthony\u00c2\u00a0was a white male<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">His father was Joseph Chmielewski, a laborer from Russia, Poland<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">His mother was Katie\u00c2\u00a0Kwarket from Russia, Poland<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">The record is from the Register of Births for 1907, Volume 568, Page 475, Number 659<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\"><em>SOURCE:\u00a0 The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Massachusetts State Archives. Record of Birth. Worcester County. 1907. Volume 568, Page 475, Number 659. Anthony Chmielewski.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The maiden name of Anthony&#8217;s mother is listed as Katie Kwarket .\u00a0 Most records list her maiden surname as Warchol.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">These registers were not completed at the time of the event .\u00a0 They were prepared periodically from the records accumulated over a number of months .\u00a0 This record is an exact image of an original document .\u00a0 I\u00c2\u00a0consider this record to be an\u00c2\u00a0original source of primary birth information for Anthony Chmielewski, but\u00c2\u00a0because these records may have been compiled several months after the actual events by people not present at the event, is the birth information really secondary, rather than primary?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
