height: 304px\" height=\"304\" alt=\"Salt Lake Temple\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Temple.jpg\" width=\"457\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Salt Lake Temple<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The neo-gothic Salt Lake Temple is the most recognizable structure in Salt Lake City .\u00a0 You can see the gilt statue of the Angel Moroni on top of one of the towers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Between the Visitors' Center and the Temple\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Lights.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image817\" style=\"width: 455px; height: 293px\" height=\"293\" alt=\"Between the Visitors' Center and the Temple\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Lights.jpg\" width=\"455\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Between the Visitors&#8217; Center and the Temple<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The Temple is on the left and\u00c2\u00a0the Visitors&#8217; Center is on the right .\u00a0 In the background the tall building to the left is the LDS Church Office Building and the shorter building to the right is the Joseph Smith Memorial Building where the Family Search Center\u00c2\u00a0is located.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Assembly Hall\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Assembly-Hall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image815\" style=\"height: 311px\" height=\"311\" alt=\"Assembly Hall\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Assembly-Hall.jpg\" width=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>The Assembly Hall<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The Assembly Hall is my favorite building in Temple Square .\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The gothic structure\u00c2\u00a0was built\u00c2\u00a0between 1877-1882 .\u00a0 The pillar to the left with the golden seagull on top is Seagull Monument to commemorate an event in June 1848 when swarms of crickets (now called &#8220;Mormon Crickets&#8221;) threatened the crops of the pioneers .\u00a0 Flocks of seagulls arrived and devoured the crickets, saving the crops.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Inside the Assembly Hall\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Inside-Assemb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image816\" style=\"width: 447px; height: 301px\" height=\"301\" alt=\"Inside the Assembly Hall\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/Temple-Square-Inside-Assemb.jpg\" width=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Inside the Assembly Hall<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The Assembly Hall houses a 3,489 pipe organ and is most often used for free weekly concerts .\u00a0 The columns (a couple can be seen under the balcony to the right)\u00c2\u00a0are contructed of\u00c2\u00a0white pine\u00c2\u00a0and painted to look like marble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I took these pictures in Temple Square on the day after Thanksgiving after the Family History Library closed for the evening .\u00a0 This was the night when the holiday lights were turned on in Temple Square and the whole downtown &hellip;
