{"id":8,"date":"2006-04-24T14:20:26","date_gmt":"2006-04-24T14:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/04\/24\/sunday-and-monday-at-the-conference\/"},"modified":"2016-04-25T13:38:48","modified_gmt":"2016-04-25T20:38:48","slug":"sunday-and-monday-at-the-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/8","title":{"rendered":"Sunday at the Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sundays the Family History Library is closed, so\u00c2\u00a0my day was a little more mellow than the previous two .\u00a0 I spent some time reading on Sunday morning, had a leisurely lunch at Trofi (the restaurant at the <a title=\"Hilton Salt Lake City Center\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hilton.com\/en\/hi\/hotels\/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=SLCCCHH\" target=\"_self\">Hilton Salt Lake City Center<\/a>, where I am staying), and then attended the afternoon sessions of the United Polish Genealogical Societies Biennial Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Ceil Jensen talked about school records (come to think of it, I don&#8217;t even know where my own school records are!) and the <a title=\"Polish State Archives\" href=\"http:\/\/www.archiwa.gov.pl\/\" target=\"_self\">Polish State Archives<\/a> .\u00a0 She claimed her multimedia presentation would have us dancing in the aisles but, alas, technical difficulties prevented us from seeing the multimedia part of her talk .\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0After Ceil&#8217;s presentation,\u00a0Kalile Mehr from the <a title=\"Family History Library\" href=\"http:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/Eng\/Library\/FHL\/frameset_library.asp\" target=\"_self\">Family History Library<\/a> (FHL) explained how records are obtained from the former Soviet Union sphere.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner at the <a title=\"Olive Garden\" href=\"http:\/\/www.olivegarden.com\" target=\"_self\">Olive Garden<\/a> with five other conference attendees was great .\u00a0 I can&#8217;t remember when I had such a good time at dinner!\u00c2\u00a0 All in all, the time we had for dinner was way too short .\u00a0 We were heading back to the conference before we knew it.<\/p>\n<p>Kahlile Mehr presented the final talk of the day and discussed East European Internet sites .\u00a0 I&#8217;ll post the list on my website after I get home from the conference .\u00a0 By the time the day&#8217;s events were over, I returned to the hotel to plan my strategy for Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, I&#8217;m in the FHL, and concentrating on obtaining proof of what I already know .\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found a few surprises, including incorrect dates that I had in my files, and a surprising (to me, anyway) cause of death!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll have to check the information I have at home and see how the new sources compare with the old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
