{"id":789,"date":"2006-11-18T23:30:58","date_gmt":"2006-11-19T06:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/18\/finding-the-church-where-my-grandparents-were-married\/"},"modified":"2016-07-23T09:42:53","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T16:42:53","slug":"finding-the-church-where-my-grandparents-were-married","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/789","title":{"rendered":"Finding the Church Where My Grandparents Were Married"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">A couple of weeks ago, George Morgan wrote about <em>Types of Marriage Records<\/em> in his &#8220;Along Those Lines&#8230;&#8221; Blog .\u00a0 In that article he mentioned something I never thought of:\u00a0 if you&#8217;re trying to find the church where your ancestors were married, but the marriage records only list the name of the person who officiated the marriage, search the City Directory for the name of the person who officiated and you may find the church!<\/p>\n<p>Today,\u00a0I\u00c2\u00a0checked the marriage record for my grandparents, Kostanty Niedzialkowski and Helen Chmielewska .\u00a0 The marriage record states that they were married on July 10, 1918 by B. A. Bojanowski, priest, Worcester, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>I then checked out the 1918 City Directory for Worcester, Massachusetts, available online at Ancestry.com, and found the following entry:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"1918 Worcester City Directory\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/CDW-1918-Bojanowski-Bolesla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image788\" style=\"width: 457px; height: 644px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/CDW-1918-Bojanowski-Bolesla.jpg\" alt=\"1918 Worcester City Directory\" width=\"457\" height=\"644\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>1918 Worcester City Directory Entry for Boleslaw A. Bojanowski<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Click on the link for a PDF copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/DIR-Bojanowski-Boleslaw-1918.pdf\">Worcester City Directory entry for Boleslaw A. Bojanowski &#8211; 1918<\/a> .\u00a0 The record states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Bojanowski Boleslaw A rector St Mary&#8217;s church h 15 Richland<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">St. Mary&#8217;s Church, which opened on August 15, 1906, is still standing, although it is now known as Our Lady of Cz\u0119stochowa Church .\u00a0 The church\u00c2\u00a0still offers mass in Polish, and the elementary school and high school associated with the church are still known as St. Mary&#8217;s School .\u00a0 The rectory, previously located at 15 Richland Street is now located around the corner at 34 Ward Street .\u00a0 The 15 Richland Street location is now part of the path of Interstate 290, the construction of\u00c2\u00a0which split the parish community in half.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">George Morgan&#8217;s nifty trick worked!\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks, George!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
