{"id":717,"date":"2006-10-30T23:30:55","date_gmt":"2006-10-31T06:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/30\/the-dankos-of-krakow\/"},"modified":"2006-10-30T23:30:55","modified_gmt":"2006-10-31T06:30:55","slug":"the-dankos-of-krakow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/717","title":{"rendered":"The Da\u0144kos of Krak\u00f3w"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I received a surprise in my email today &#8211; a message from my half-second cousin Piotr Da\u0144ko in Krak\u00f3w!<\/p>\n<p>If you listened to the recent <a title=\"Genealogy Guys Podcast\" href=\"http:\/\/www.genealogyguys.com\">Genealogy Guys Podcast<\/a> from <a title=\"October 23, 2006\" href=\"http:\/\/www.genealogyguys.com\/index.php?post_id=144022\">October 23, 2006<\/a>, you&#8217;ll know that Drew Smith interviewed me over the telephone and we discussed, among other things, my trip to Poland in 2000 .\u00a0 Drew asked me if I had met any of my relatives still living in Poland, and I told him that, although I met some of the Da\u0144kos in Nienadowa, nobody there\u00c2\u00a0thought I was related to them.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, there was a suggestion that I might be related to a Da\u0144ko living in Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n<p>I remember that my Aunt Helen told me that my Great-Grandmother Agnieszka Sowa fell while picking cherries and died .\u00a0 My Great-Grandfather Jakub Da\u0144ko then married Zofia G\u0142owacz and the couple had a son .\u00a0 Further, one of the descendants of this line went to live in Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n<p>When I received the email from Piotr Da\u0144ko today, he provided me information that convinced\u00c2\u00a0me that he is descended from this line, the marriage of Jakub Da\u0144ko and Zofia G\u0142owacz .\u00a0 This makes us half-second cousins .\u00a0 Jakub Da\u0144ko is\u00c2\u00a0our common ancestor &#8211; he is a\u00c2\u00a0great grandfather\u00c2\u00a0to both of us .\u00a0 However, we are half-cousins, because we have different great grandmothers.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to exchanging information with Piotr .\u00a0 This is the first contact I&#8217;ve had with any relatives still living in Poland.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve included in today&#8217;s post a photo of my\u00c2\u00a0grandfather, Micha\u0142 Da\u0144ko .\u00a0 My grandfather Micha\u0142 is the half-brother of Piotr&#8217;s grandfather .\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know the date of this photo .\u00a0 I guess it was taken on Henchman Street in Worcester, Massachusetts in the 1930s or 1940s.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Michael Danko on Henchman Street\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/10\/Michael-Danko-Henchman-Stre.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image716\" style=\"height: 506px\" height=\"506\" alt=\"Michael Danko on Henchman Street\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/10\/Michael-Danko-Henchman-Stre.jpg\" width=\"351\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Micha\u0142 Da\u0144ko (Michael Danko)<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Thanks to my cousin, Marguerite Martin, for providing me with this photograph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I received a surprise in my email today &#8211; a message from my half-second cousin Piotr Da\u0144ko in Krak\u00f3w!
