Translated from the Polish, the record reads:<\/p>\n \u00e2\u201e\u2013 56 Chodkowo kuchny<\/p>\n This happened in the village o P\u0142oniawy on the twenty-fifth day of November \/ the seventh day of December in the year one-thousand eight-hundred thirty-five at the hour of two in the afternoon. There appeared Melchior Chodkowski, the grandfather of the deceased, seventy years of age, and Leon Chodkowski, seventy-one years of age, owners of parts [of the village] and residing in Chodkowo kuchny, and he stated that on the twenty-fourth day of November \/ sixth day of December of the same year at the hour of seven in the evening, J\u00f3zef died, one month old, son of Stefan Chodkowski and Anna n\u00e9e Roman his wife, owners of a part [of the village] and residing in Chodkowo kuchny. After visual confirmation of the death of Chodkowski, this document was read aloud to the declarants who do not know how to write, and signed by Us. J\u00f3zef Jan Adam Chodkowski was my 5th cousin 3X removed.<\/p>\n There appears to be an error in the age of Leon Chodkowski in this record. In the birth and baptismal records of Stefan Chodkowski’s children, he is listed as 60 years old in 1835, 62 years old in 1836, and 66 years old in 1839. With three records supporting the assumption that Leon was born in about 1773-1775, it is likely that his actual age at the time of this child’s death was 61, not 71. It is not clear to me who this Leon Chodkowski was, other than the fact that he was an owner of a part of Chodkowo kuchny. In any case, he was important enough to Stefan Chodkowski to be the Godfather for all three of Stefan’s children and to be a declarant at the death of\u00c2\u00a0Stefan’s first-born child.<\/p>\n In addition, this record states that J\u00f3zef Jan Adam Chodkowski was one month old at the time of his death. According to this birth and baptismal record, J\u00f3zef Jan Adam Chodkowski was actually only 12 days old at the time of death.<\/p>\n Copyright \u00a9 2009 by Stephen J.
