{"id":62,"date":"2006-05-05T23:15:22","date_gmt":"2006-05-06T06:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/05\/05\/cemetery-records\/"},"modified":"2015-06-21T22:28:22","modified_gmt":"2015-06-22T05:28:22","slug":"cemetery-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/62","title":{"rendered":"Massachusetts Cemetery Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two previous entries on this blog have dealt with\u00c2\u00a0cemetery records, so it&#8217;s about time to see what some of these records look like .\u00a0 My experiences in cemeteries have been varied &#8211; the employees at some\u00c2\u00a0cemeteries have bent over backwards to help me find the graves for which I was looking, providing me with maps, copies of the burial records, and directions to the graves .\u00a0 Others have been quite unfriendly, asking &#8220;Is this for <em>genealogy<\/em>?&#8221; (usually accompanied by a cold stare) .\u00a0 Some cemeteries have charged for copies of the burial records, others have not .\u00a0 In general, if the cemetery doesn&#8217;t charge for the copies and the employees have been helpful, I usually offer to make a donation .\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Sometimes there is a &#8220;Friends of the Cemetery&#8221; group or a special project for which the cemetery\u00c2\u00a0is raising funds.<\/p>\n<p>The cemetery records themselves are not always available to the public, but they generally exist as either card files or computer files .\u00a0 The records can contain a wealth of information, including dates of birth, death, and burial, locations of birth and death, location of grave, name of the owner of the\u00c2\u00a0plot and the amount paid for perpetual care, former address of the deseased, relationships between the people buried in the same plot, and relationship of the deceased to the owner of the plot or to living individuals.<\/p>\n<p>I previously posted the grave marker for Harry Meleski and his wife, Margaret .\u00a0 The cemetery personnel at <a title=\"Hope Cemetery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofhopecemetery.com\/\">Hope Cemetery<\/a> in Worcester, Massachusetts were extremely helpful and gracious and provided me with a <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Hope-Cemetery.pdf\">map of Hope Cemetery<\/a> and a copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Burial-Meleski-Harry.pdf\">burial record for Harry and Margaret Meleski<\/a>, on the spot and all at no cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Meleski-Harry.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13078\" title=\"Burial Marker for Harry and Margaret Meleski\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Meleski-Harry-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Burial Marker for Harry and Margaret Meleski\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Meleski-Harry-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Meleski-Harry-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Meleski-Harry.jpg 1802w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"St. John's Cemetery\" href=\"http:\/\/worcester.citysearch.com\/profile\/4626660\/?brand=smx_yp-nc\">St. John&#8217;s Cemetery<\/a> in Worcester, Massachusetts was also very helpful .\u00a0 They printed out <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Burial-Golinski-family.pdf\">computer records<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and also provided me with a <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Map-of-St-Johns-Cemetery.pdf\">map of St. John&#8217;s Cemetery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Golinski-Obverse.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13079\" title=\"Monument for the Golinski Family -
