{"id":581,"date":"2006-09-20T21:59:44","date_gmt":"2006-09-21T04:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/09\/20\/grandmother-dankos-obituary-in-the-worcester-newspaper\/"},"modified":"2006-09-20T21:59:44","modified_gmt":"2006-09-21T04:59:44","slug":"grandmother-dankos-obituary-in-the-worcester-newspaper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/581","title":{"rendered":"Grandmother Danko&#039;s Obituary in the Worcester Newspaper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day after my grandmother Da\u0144ko died, her obituary appeared in the Worcester Telegram .\u00a0 At the time of her death, four of her children were still living in Worcester, Massachusetts .\u00a0 Her funeral and burial\u00c2\u00a0were planned for\u00c2\u00a0Worcester.<\/p>\n<p>Her obituary read as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Date: September 9, 1969<br \/>\nEdition: Final<br \/>\nSection: Obituaries<br \/>\nPage: 20<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Mrs. Mary Danko<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Mary (Dziwrzynski) Danko, 90, widow of Michael Danko, of 12 Dana Ave., Albany, N.Y., formerly of Worcester, died yesterday in St. Peter&#8217;s Hospital, Albany, N.Y.<\/p>\n<p>She was born in Slewnica, Poland, and came to this country in 1909 and lived in Worcester prior to moving to Albany in 1953.<\/p>\n<p>Her husband died in 1953.<\/p>\n<p>She leaves three sons, Francis J. Danko of Albany, and Michael J. and Joseph J. Danko of Worcester; five daughters, Sophie, wife of Clark Gibson, Statia, widow of Alfred Iwaniec, and Helen, wife of John Petri, all of Albany, Bertha, wife of George McGinn and Mary, wife of Oscar Yousoufian, both of Worcester, 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>The funeral will be held Thursday from the Henry funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a High Mass at 8:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 36 Ward St .\u00a0 Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition, the Worcester Telegram published a death notice on the same day:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Date: September 9, 1969<br \/>\nEdition: Final<br \/>\nSection: Deaths<br \/>\nPage: 20<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANKO<\/strong> &#8211; in Albany, N.Y., Mrs. Mary (Dziwrzynski) Danko, 90, formerly of Worcester.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On September 10, The Worcester Telegram published a funeral announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Date: September 10, 1969<br \/>\nEdition: Final<br \/>\nSection: Funerals<br \/>\nPage: 30<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANKO<\/strong>, Mrs. Mary (Dziwrzynski), Albany, N.Y., formerly of Worcester, tomorrow, 8:30 a.m., Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 36 Ward St.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And finally, on September 11, the Worcester Telegram published one final funeral announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Date: September 11, 1969<br \/>\nEdition: Final<br \/>\nSection: Funerals<br \/>\nPage: 20<\/p>\n<p><strong>DANKO<\/strong>, Mrs. Mary (Dziwrzynski), Albany, N.Y., formerly of Worcester, today, 8:30 a.m., Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 36 Ward St.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tomorrow: Memories of my grandmother.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The day after my grandmother Da\u0144ko died, her obituary appeared in the Worcester Telegram .\u00a0 At the time of her death, four of her children were still living in Worcester, Massachusetts .\u00a0 Her funeral and burial\u00c2\u00a0were planned for\u00c2\u00a0Worcester.
