<\/a><\/p>\nBirth and Baptismal Record for Jan Markiewicz<\/em><\/p>\n Click on the link for a PDF copy of the Birth and Baptismal Record for Jan Markiewicz – 1889<\/a> .\u00a0 The record states:<\/p>\n 42 .\u00a0 Braciejowice – Markiewicz Jan<\/strong><\/p>\n This happened in the village of Piotrawin on the\u00c2\u00a015th \/ 27th day of February\u00c2\u00a01889 at\u00c2\u00a06 o’clock\u00c2\u00a0in the afternoon .\u00a0 Tomasz Markiewicz appeared in person, age 30, a house owner in the village of Braciejowice, in the presence of\u00c2\u00a0Stanis\u0142aw Pi\u0105tek from the village of Brzeliow, age 21, and\u00c2\u00a0Franciszek Turski\u00c2\u00a0from\u00c2\u00a0the village of Braciejowice, age 48, house owners\u00c2\u00a0– and he presented to us a child of the male sex, stating that it was born in the village of Braciejowice on this date, the 15th \/ 27th day of February of this year, at\u00c2\u00a0twelve o’clock in the\u00c2\u00a0day\u00c2\u00a0– of his lawful wife Franciszka nee Piontkowa, age 25 .\u00a0 To this child at Holy Baptism performed on this date was given the name of Jan, and his godparents were the above-mentioned\u00c2\u00a0Stanis\u0142aw Pi\u0105tek\u00c2\u00a0and Agnieszka Turska .\u00a0 This document was read to the declarant father and to the witnesses, all of whom are illiterate, and signed by us.<\/p>\n Rev. C. Trembi\u0144ski, pastor of the Piotrawin Parish -\u00c2\u00a0Keeper of the documents of the civil state<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The Birth and Baptismal Record shows that\u00c2\u00a0Jan (John)\u00c2\u00a0was\u00c2\u00a0born at\u00c2\u00a012 Noon on\u00c2\u00a0February 27, 1889\u00c2\u00a0in Braciejowice, baptized at\u00c2\u00a06 PM on\u00c2\u00a0the same day\u00c2\u00a0in Piotrawin, his father was Tomasz (Thomas) Markiewicz, his mother was Franciszka (Frances) Piontkowa, his godparents were Stanis\u0142aw (Stanley) Pi\u0105tek and Agnieszka (Agnes) Turska, and he was baptized by the Rev. C. Trembi\u0144ski.<\/p>\n Of particular interest is the fact that Stanis\u0142aw Pi\u0105tek was the godfather .\u00a0 He may be related to Franciszka, the mother .\u00a0 I’m not sure about the spelling of Stanis\u0142aw Pi\u0105tek’s village – I couldn’t find it on a map .\u00a0 Also of interest is the fact that Franciszek Turski also appears as a witness in the Birth and Baptismal Records for Micha\u0142 and Stanis\u0142aw Markiewicz .\u00a0 The godmother, Agnieszka Turska, may be related to Franciszek Turski, who appeared as a witness at Stanis\u0142aw Markiewicz’ baptism.<\/p>\n According to this record, Tomasz Markiewicz was 30 years old, indicating that he was born between 1858-1859, and Franciszka\u00c2\u00a0Pi\u0105tkowa was 25 years old, meaning that she was born\u00c2\u00a0between 1863-1864 .\u00a0 Combined with the ages in other baptismal documents, Tomasz was born between 1857-1859, and Franciszka was born between 1862-1868.<\/p>\n There is one unusual notation on the original document – located in the left margin, just below the name of the village and the name of the child .\u00a0 It says:<\/p>\n = February of this This notation indicates that the priest left the words “February of this” out of the written document and these words should be inserted in the document where he has indicated two strokes (looks like and equal sign) and a vertical slash between two words on the 8th line, towards the left hand side .\u00a0 The letters\u00c2\u00a0“CT” are the priest’s initials and I think the “k” stands for ksi\u0105dz – the Polish word for priest .\u00a0 I’m not absolutely sure that the letter “k” follows the priest’s initials, but I’m not sure what the marks after the “CT” would be otherwise.<\/p>\n Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
