Dem. Group # [?]<br \/>\nTHE UNITED STATES ARMY, as a TESTIMONIAL OF HONEST AND FAITHFUL<br \/>\nSERVICE, is hereby HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the military service of the<br \/>\nUNITED STATES by reason of\u00c2\u00a0Demobilization per Cir .\u00a075 WD dated Nov 15\/18<br \/>\nSaid John Jwanauski 749891 was born<br \/>\nin Kovna, in the State of Russia<br \/>\nWhen enlisted he was 20 8\u00c2\u00a0years of age and by occupation a Laborer<br \/>\nHe had brown eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, and<br \/>\nwas 5 feet 7 inches in height.<br \/>\nGiven under my hand at Camp Devens, Mass this<br \/>\n28 day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.<br \/>\nH. S. Cushing<br \/>\nMajor CAC USA<br \/>\nCommanding<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The record is stamped:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">REC&#8217;D JUL 16 1926<br \/>\nAt 3 30 o&#8217;clock PM.<br \/>\nRecorded in Vol. 2 Page 62<br \/>\nNEW BRITAIN, CT. USA RECORDS<br \/>\nBy Alfred L. Thompson<br \/>\nTOWN CLERK<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">An annotation was made later:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">War Department, AGO\u00c2\u00a0 15 January 1945.<br \/>\nSatisfactory evidence has been sub-<br \/>\nmitted to this Department showing that<br \/>\nthis soldier&#8217;s name was changed 3 November<br \/>\n1944, by order of a court of competent<br \/>\njurisdiction to John Michael Evans.<br \/>\n[signed] Buford [H.?] Dougherty<br \/>\nAdjutant General.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Some notes on this document:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">&#8220;749891 Private [?] th Machine Gun Battalion&#8221; indicates John&#8217;s serial number, his grade, and company &#8211; part of this is illegible<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">&#8220;att. Dem Group&#8221; means attached to Demobilization Group # &#8211; the group number should follow, but is illegible<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">&#8220;Demobilization per Cir .\u00a075 WD dated Nov 15\/18&#8221; indicates that Demobilization was as per Circular 75 of the War Department dated Nov 15, 1918<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">John&#8217;s birthplace was listed as Kovna [Kovno], Russia, now Kaunas, Lithuania<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">The notation &#8220;When enlisted he was 20 8\u00c2\u00a0years of age&#8221; probably means that John was 20 years and 8 months old when he enlisted<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I planned to publish photos from the area of France where John Jwanauski served during World War I, but I&#8217;m waiting to obtain permission from the person who took the photographs I&#8217;d like to publish.
