{"id":456,"date":"2006-08-05T01:41:08","date_gmt":"2006-08-05T08:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/05\/the-world-war-i-enlistment-record-of-john-jwanauski\/"},"modified":"2016-05-22T16:14:24","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T23:14:24","slug":"the-world-war-i-enlistment-record-of-john-jwanauski","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/456","title":{"rendered":"The World War I Enlistment Record of John Jwanauski"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Jwanauski immigrated into the United States on December 15, 1912.<\/p>\n<p>In July 1917, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought for the United States in World War I .\u00a0 The record of his enlistment provides some details of his military service .\u00a0 In brief, john fought on the Western Front in France and was present at the final battle at Meuse Argonne when Germany signed the Armistice on November 11, 1918.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Enlistment Record of John Jwanauski\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/John-Iwanauski-Enlistment-Record.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image454\" style=\"width: 444px; height: 516px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/John-Iwanauski-Enlistment-Record.jpg\" alt=\"Enlistment Record of John Jwanauski\" width=\"444\" height=\"516\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Enlistment Record for John Jwanauski<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Click on the link for a PDF copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/MRE-Jwanauski-John-1917.pdf\">WW1 Enlistment Record for John Jwanauski &#8211; 1917<\/a> .\u00a0 The record shows that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">John Jwanauski was a private, enlisted or inducted on July [22], 1917 at Fort Slocum, NY<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He served in the First [&#8230;] enlistment period at date of discharge<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He had no prior service, was not a noncommissioned officer, had no marksmanship, gunner qualification or rating, or horsemanship<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">John was involved in two battles, engagements, skirmishes, and expeditions:\u00a0 the first at G\u00e9rardmer Sector, Vosges [France] from Sept 3-8, 1918, and second at the Meuse Argonne Offensive from Nov [1-11], 1918<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">His vocation was as a butcher<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">he received no wounds in service and\u00c2\u00a0his physical condition was good when discharged<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">His typhoid prophylaxis was completed on Aug 17, 1917 and his paratyphoid prophylaxis was completed on Aug 22, 1917<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He was single and his character was described as excellent<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">John was entitled to travel pay to Springfield, Mass, he had no record of AWOL, and he had no record of Court Marshall<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">John signed the document himself<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">C Boynton, Capt Inf USA, Commanding [Def] also signed the document<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">Other stamps and notations were:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Recruiting Station, U.S. Army,<br \/>\n17 Hampden St., Springfield, Mass.<br \/>\nBronze Victory Button Issued<br \/>\n[signed] C M Dodson<br \/>\nC M Dodson<br \/>\nMajor Infantry<br \/>\nRecruiting Office<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">[?]<br \/>\nJUN 28 1919<br \/>\nPAID IN FULL $94.10<br \/>\nBONUS OF $60 [?] 1919<br \/>\n[?]<br \/>\n[signed] R.
