{"id":439,"date":"2006-07-31T22:56:16","date_gmt":"2006-08-01T05:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/31\/world-war-i-draft-registration-of-stanislaw-markiewicz\/"},"modified":"2016-05-22T15:42:42","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T22:42:42","slug":"world-war-i-draft-registration-of-stanislaw-markiewicz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/439","title":{"rendered":"World War I Draft Registration of Stanislaw Markiewicz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the United States all men between the ages of 18 and 45 were required to register for the draft, regardless of whether they were citizens .\u00a0 Three separate registrations were conductd:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On June 5, 1917, all men born between June 6, 1886 and June 5, 1896 were required to register<\/li>\n<li>On June 5, 1918, all\u00c2\u00a0men born between June 6, 1896 and June 5, 1897 were required to register, and on August 24, 1918, all men born between June 6, 1897 and August 23, 1897 were required to register<\/li>\n<li>On September 12, 1918, all men born between September 11, 1872 and September 12, 1900 were required to register<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Stanislaw Markiewicz should have registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 .\u00a0 He actually registered on October 7, 1918.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Markiewicz WWI Front\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/WWI-Stanislaw-Markiewicz-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image436\" style=\"width: 381px; height: 449px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/WWI-Stanislaw-Markiewicz-1.jpg\" alt=\"Markiewicz WWI Front\" width=\"381\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>World War I Draft Registration Card for Stanislaw Markiewicz (Front)<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Markiewicz WWI Back\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/WWI-Stanislaw-Markiewicz-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image437\" style=\"width: 377px; height: 452px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/WWI-Stanislaw-Markiewicz-2.jpg\" alt=\"Markiewicz WWI Back\" width=\"377\" height=\"452\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>World War I Draft Registration Card for Stanislaw Markiewicz (Back)<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Click on the link for a PDF copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/WW1-Markiewicz-Stanislaus-1918.pdf\">WW1 Draft Card for Stanislaw Markiewicz &#8211; 1918<\/a> .\u00a0 The card states that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Several numbers appear on the card:\u00a0 one is apparently the Order No. 871a, another is 4782 at the bottom left of the front of the card, the third is 20-2-17.A on the back of the card<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Stanislaw Markiewicz was 26 years old when he registered;\u00c2\u00a0 he was born on Apr. 20, 1892<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">At the time of registration, Stanislaw lived at 54 Lafayette, Worcester, Mass<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Stanislaw was an alien, born in Lubinsky, Poland-Russia<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">His occupation was moulder at the Standard Foundry on Lamartine St.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He listed his wife and 3 children as dependents<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He was married, his race was white, and he had no previous military experience<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He claimed exemption from the draft because he was an alien and he was married<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Stanislaw was of medium height, medium build, with blue eyes and dk. brown hair<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He had no disabilities<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">He registered at Worcester, Mass. on Oct. 7, 1918 at the Local Board for Division No. 4<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
