{"id":415,"date":"2006-07-24T22:35:50","date_gmt":"2006-07-25T05:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/24\/the-petition-for-naturalization-of-stanislaw-markiewicz\/"},"modified":"2016-05-22T15:01:58","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T22:01:58","slug":"the-petition-for-naturalization-of-stanislaw-markiewicz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/415","title":{"rendered":"The Petition for Naturalization of Stanislaw Markiewicz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three years after filing his second <a title=\"Declaration of Intention\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/23\/the-declaration-of-intention-of-stanislaw-markiewicz\/\">Declaration of Intention<\/a> to become a citizen of the United States, Stanislaw Markiewicz filed his Petition for Naturalization<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Markiewicz Petition Front\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/Petition-Markiewicz-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image412\" style=\"width: 490px; height: 625px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/Petition-Markiewicz-1.jpg\" alt=\"Markiewicz Petition Front\" width=\"490\" height=\"625\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Stanislaw Markiewicz&#8217; Petition for Naturalization &#8211; Front<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Markiewicz Petition Back\" href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/Petition-Markiewicz-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image413\" style=\"width: 497px; height: 640px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/Petition-Markiewicz-2.jpg\" alt=\"Markiewicz Petition Back\" width=\"497\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Stanislaw Markiewicz&#8217; Petition for Naturalization &#8211; Back<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Click on the link for a PDF copy of the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/IMP-Markiewicz-Stansilaw-1940.pdf\">Petition for Naturalization for Stanislaw Markiewicz &#8211; 1940<\/a> .\u00a0 The Petition states that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stanislaw Markiewicz filed his Petition for Naturalization No. 30012 on July 12, 1939 in the Superior Court of Massachusetts of Worcester<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw resided at 320 Millbury St., Worcester, Mass.<\/li>\n<li>He was Polish and was born in Bracijowice, Poland on Apr. 20, 1936<\/li>\n<li>He declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States on May 11, 1936 in the Superior Court of Massachusetts at Worcester, Mass.<\/li>\n<li>He was married to Antonina Lejwoda on Feb. 2, 1913 in South Framingham, Mass.<\/li>\n<li>Antonina was born on Apr. 23, 1891 in Lublin, Poland and entered the United States on Oct. 20, 1912 in New York, N.Y.<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw had seven children:\u00a0 Stefan born Jan. 22, 1914, Mrs. Bronislawa Skowronski born Oct. 7, 1915, Waclaw born Aug. 15, 1917, Edward born Dec. 17, 1919, Helena born Mar. 15, 1922, Janiena born June 4, 1925, and Ryszard born Feb. 24, 1928, all born and living in Worcester, Mass. except for Edward who was living in Fort Ethan Allen, Vt.<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw&#8217;s last residence was Bracijowice, Poland<\/li>\n<li>He emigrated from Antwerp, Belgium under the name Stanislaw Markiewicz on the Zeeland and arrived in New York, N.Y. on May 29, 1912<\/li>\n<li>He renounced allegiance to The Republic of Poland<\/li>\n<li>He had lived continuously in the United States of America since May 29, 1912 and in the County of Worcester since June 1913<\/li>\n<li>He had not previously made petition for naturalization<\/li>\n<li>Two witnesses provided affidavits of Stanislaw&#8217;s good moral character:\u00a0 Stanley J. Dusak, a machinist residing at\u00c2\u00a015 Lafayette St., Worcester, Mass. and Joseph H. Nahorski, an assembler residing at 69 Seymour St., Worcester, Mass.<\/li>\n<li>The witnesses stated that they had known Stanislaw since Dec. 1, 1931 and that to their knowledge Stanislaw had resided in Worcester, Mass. in the County of Worcester since that date and the witnesses signed the petition in Worcester, Mass. on July 12, 1929<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw&#8217;s Certificate of Arrival No. 1 177792 and his Declaration of Intention No. 46155 were noted<\/li>\n<li>On the reverse, Stanislaw renounced allegiance to The Republic of Poland and gave his Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America on March 25, 1940<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw&#8217;s Petition was granted and noted on Line No. 9 of List No. 477<\/li>\n<li>Stanislaw was granted Certificate of Citizenship No. 4735432<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note:\u00a0 The correct spelling of Stanislaw&#8217;s birthplace is Braciejowice, Poland .\u00a0 In his Declaration of Intention, Stanislaw stated that he was born in Lublin, Poland, but in his Petition for Naturalization, he stated that he was born in Bracijowice (sic), Poland.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow:\u00a0 Stanislaw&#8217;s Immigrant Passenger Manifest<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
