On about 05 May 1799, Jan Niedzia\u0142kowski, son of Andrzej Niedzia\u0142kowski and Kunegunda Milewska, was born in Klonowo, ziemia ciechanowska, wojew\u00f3dztwo mazowieckie, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He was baptized in the parish church in Pa\u0142uki, ziemia ciechanowska, wojew\u00f3dztwo mazowieckie, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on 05 May 1799.<\/p>\n

Klonowo<\/p>\n

On the 5th of May, I Gabriel Bietkowski, chancellor of Livonia and prior of Pa\u0142uki, baptized an infant with the name Jan, son of the noble Andrzej Niedzia\u0142kowski and Kunegunda n\u00e9e Milewski. The Godparents were the noble Kazimierz Pajewski and the noble J\u00f3zefa Pajewska, both from the village of Klonowo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As with most other Polish records from this time period, this record does not specifically state all the details of the baptism. The reader must refer to the top of the page for the year (1799).<\/p>\n

One of the most difficult parts of these records for me to understand is the title of the priest. These titles are often abbreviated and the details of the titles are not found in most Latin dictionaries. In this record, the title is Canus Live Prapositus Pa\u0142ue, where the words Canus, Live and Pa\u0142ue include special characters that apparently show the words are contracted. As far as I can tell, the full title is something like “Canonus Livoniae Praepositus Pa\u0142uki”, meaning (roughly) “Chancellor of Livonia and Prior of Pa\u0142uki”.<\/p>\n
