Haplogroup H11 is an uncommon\u00c2\u00a0branch of haplogroup H and is one of the oldest branches of H. Origin and expansion of haplogroup H, the dominant human mitochondrial DNA lineage in West Eurasia: the Near Eastern and Caucasian perspective .\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbe.oxfordjournals.org\/cgi\/reprint\/24\/2\/436?maxtoshow=&#038;HITS=10&#038;hits=10&#038;RESULTFORMAT=1&#038;author1=Roostalu&#038;andorexacttitle=and&#038;andorexacttitleabs=and&#038;andorexactfulltext=and&#038;searchid=1&#038;FIRSTINDEX=0&#038;sortspec=relevance&#038;resourcetype=HWCIT\">Mol Biol Evol. 2007 24:436-48<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With these results, I now have the mitochondrial DNA haplogroups for both of my grandmothers and the Y-DNA haplogroups for both of my grandfathers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paternal grandfather&#8217;s Y-DNA: Haplogroup R1b1b2a1a (tracks with the Da\u0144ko surname)<\/li>\n<li>Maternal grandfather&#8217;s Y-DNA: Haplogroup R1a1 (tracks with the Niedzia\u0142kowski surname)<\/li>\n<li>Paternal grandmother&#8217;s mtDNA: Haplogroup H11 (Bryan Sykes&#8217; &#8220;Helena&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Maternal grandmother&#8217;s mtDNA: Haplogroup W1 (a sister of\u00c2\u00a0Bryan Sykes&#8217; &#8220;Xenia&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The sources of the DNA for these results were not my grandparents, all of whom passed on long ago. I supplied the DNA sample that represents my paternal grandfather&#8217;s Y-DNA and my maternal grandmother&#8217;s mtDNA. My Niedzialkowski cousins supplied the samples that represents my maternal grandfather&#8217;s Y-DNA, and my father supplied the sample that represents my paternal grandmother&#8217;s mtDNA.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Copyright \u00a9 2008 by Stephen J.
