In particular, my great granduncle Jan Niedzia\u0142kowski was born there (according to his marriage record), and my great grandfather Teofil Niedzia\u0142kowski may also have been born there. Translated from the Polish, the entry reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mi\u0142osna 1.) a village and settlement in Powiat [District] warszawski and gmina [township] Wawer; the parish is in Wi\u0105zowna. It lies in the middle of a sandy hill covered with forests, 14 versts [1 verst = 0.663 miles] distant from Warszawa. It possesses a railway station from Warszawa to Terespol, 17 versts from the Warszawa b. post office by a beaten track going from Warszawa to Brze\u015b\u0107 and from Warszawa to Lublin. In the year 1827 there were 15 homes and 123 residents here. The possessions of Mi\u0142osna consist of the folwarks [large manorial farmsteads]: Mi\u0142osna, Bork\u00f3w, Kaczyd\u00f3\u0142, and \u017burawka, nomenclature: Pochulanka, Jan\u00f3wek, and Zakr\u0119t, as well as the village of Zakr\u0119t, an open expanse of 6397 m\u00f3rgs [in the Russian partition 1 m\u00f3rg = 1.388 acres]; the Mi\u0142osna folwark includes 364 m\u00f3rgs of arable land and gardens, 68 m\u00f3rgs of meadows, 2 m\u00f3rgs of water, 1689 m\u00f3rgs of forests, 3482 m\u00f3rgs of brush, 70 m\u00f3rgs of unused land and squares; in the settlement there are 21 m\u00f3rgs of clearcut and land lease, together there are 5793 m\u00f3rgs; in the Bork\u00f3w folwark there are 89 m\u00f3rgs of arable land and gardens, 109 m\u00f3rgs of meadows,103 m\u00f3rgs of pastures, 19 m\u00f3rgs of forests, 10 m\u00f3rgs of unused land and squares, together there are 330 m\u00f3rgs; in the Kaczyd\u00f3\u0142 there are 168 m\u00f3rgs of arable land and gardens, 23 m\u00f3rgs of unused land and squares, together there are 191 m\u00f3rgs; in the \u017burawka folwark there are 80 m\u00f3rgs of arable land, 3 m\u00f3rgs of unused land and squares, together there are 83 m\u00f3rgs; there are 13 brick buildings and 58 wooden buildings. The village of Zakr\u0119t has 19 settlers and 71 arable m\u00f3rgs .\u00a0 2.) M[i\u0142osna] is a clearcut settlement in Powiat kutnoski and Gmina Kro\u015bniewice, the parish is in Mi\u0142onice. It is part of the property of Mi\u0142onice.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Br[onis\u0142aw] Ch[lebowski]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Family History Library has microfilmed the parish registers from Wi\u0105zowna, the parish to which the village of Mi\u0142osna belonged. I&#8217;ve ordered three of these films.<\/p>\n<p>In the map, above, it is apparent how close Mi\u0142osna is to Warsaw. On one document, my grandfather claimed he was born in Warsaw. Given the close proximity of Mi\u0142osna to Warsaw, if\u00c2\u00a0my grandfather\u00c2\u00a0was actually born in Mi\u0142osna, it would be understandable why he would say he was born in Warsaw.<\/p>\n<p>The maps of the Third Military Mapping Survey of Austria-Hungary and the entries in the S\u0142ownik Geograficzny were prepared at about the same time and make a good pair for studying places in and around the Congress Kingdom of Poland at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, a time period when the Eastern European ancestors of present-day Americans left their homelands for the United States.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Copyright \u00a9 2008 by Stephen J.
