On the seventh day of the month of January in the year [one-thousand six-hundred] eighty-four was baptized in the church of Ste. Anne by me, Thomas Morel, Missionary Priest providing the functions of pastor of this church, Alexander, son of Pierre Gagnon and Barbe Fortin his wife, born on the previous day. His Godfather was Joseph Fortin, his uncle, and his Godmother was Marguerite Gagnon<\/strike> Caron, daughter of Jean Caron: who have declared that they do not know how to write or sign as required by law.
