The Dictionary of Polish Place Names (Nazwy Miejscowe Polski<\/em>) explains the origin of place names in Poland and details how the place name changed over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volume XIV of Nazwy Miejscowe Polski<\/em> lists one place called Smrock. This entry is for a village currently in the Masovian Voivodeship and which belongs to the Szelk\u00f3w parish. Today, the village of Smrock is two villages: Smrock-Dw\u00f3r and Smrock-Kolonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nazwy Miejscowe Polski<\/em> indicates that Smrock was in the Szelk\u00f3w Gmina, Ostro\u0142\u0119ka Voivodeship in the years 1975-1998, and is 4 kilometers southeast of Mak\u00f3w Mazowiecki. Mentions of the village include Smroczko<\/em> in 1402, Smroczszko<\/em> in (1424) 1456, Smroczko, Smoroczsko<\/em> in 1426, Smroczsko<\/em> in (1442) 1456, Szmroczsk<\/em> in 1465, villa nostra ducali Szmroczko<\/em> in 1465, Smroczko<\/em> in 1482, Smroczek<\/em> in 1484, Szmroczsko<\/em> in 1496, Smroczko, Smroczki<\/em> in 1508, Smroczk<\/em> in 1511, Smroczko<\/em> in 1532, Smroczk<\/em> in 1546, przy wsi Smroczku, Smroczk<\/em> in (1565), Smroczko Regia<\/em> in 1582, Smroczku<\/em>, przy wsi Smroczkowie, Smroczk, Smroczko<\/em> in 1617, Smrock<\/em> in 1783, 1827, and 1889, Smrock<\/em>, w\u015b, kol. in 1921, Smrock Dw\u00f3r, Smrock Kolonia<\/em> in 1952, and Smrock-Dw\u00f3r, -ka-Dworu, Smrock-Kolonia, -ka-nii, smrocki<\/em> in 1971.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally called Smroczsko from the name of a settlement Smrok (compare zmrok) or perhaps from the variant name of the spruce tree smrok, with the suffix -sko or -sk. The names Smoroczsko, Smroczek, Smroczk,<\/em> and Smroczki<\/em> were used until the name Smrock<\/em> became established.<\/p>\n\n\n
