Miho no Matsubara is the site of the Legend of Hagoromo (The Feathered Robe) which tells of a celestial being who left her feathered robe on a pine tree so she could bathe in the water there. A fisherman named Hakuryo took the feathered robe and refused to return it until she danced for him.
