{"id":20336,"date":"2016-07-05T06:00:59","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T13:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/?p=20336"},"modified":"2025-04-21T17:25:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T00:25:18","slug":"the-polish-village-of-milewo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/20336","title":{"rendered":"The Polish Village of Milewo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are seven main entries for Milewo in the <em>S\u0142ownik Geograficzny Kr\u00f3lestwa Polskiego i Innych Kraj\u00f3w S\u0142owia\u0144skich (Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland and other Slavonic Countries).<\/em> The first main entry includes several villages located in the Ciechan\u00f3w Powiat and includes villages where my ancestors lived. These villages appear on the <a href=\"http:\/\/lazarus.elte.hu\/hun\/digkonyv\/topo\/3felmeres.htm\">Third Military Mapping Survey of Austria-Hungary<\/a> on Sheet 39-53, Ostro\u0142\u0119cka. The village of Milewo is highlighted in the image below by a box surrounding the name of the village. The village of Krasne, the parish for most of these small villages called Milewo is also highlighted. The record, translated from the Polish, states:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Milewo<\/strong> 1.) a peasant village in Sierpc powiat [district], gmina [community] and parish of Koziebrody, about 22 versts [1 verst = 0.663 miles] from Sierpc. There are 11 homes, 116 residents, 161 m\u00f3rgs [in the Russian partition, 1 m\u00f3rg = 1.388 acres] of good land, 5 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. In 1827 there were 8 homes and 130 residents.<br \/>\n2.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong>, a village in P\u0142o\u0144sk powiat, Sochocin gmina, and parish of Wiezbowiec, 5 versts from P\u0142o\u0144sk, it has a windmill, 22 homes, 279 residents, and 785 m\u00f3rgs of good land. In 1827 there were 6 homes and 77 residents.<br \/>\n3.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong>, an area of nobles on the Sona river in Ciechan\u00f3w powiat and bordering a wide stretch of Mak\u00f3w. Within its area are found the villages in Ciechan\u00f3w powiat, Zalesie gmina, and Krasne parish:<br \/>\na) Milewo-<em>Brzeg\u0119dy<\/em>, a village on the Sona River, about 23 versts from Ciechan\u00f3w. There are 13 homes, 116 residents, 371 m\u00f3rgs of good land, 14 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. In 1827 there were 18 homes and 108 residents. Lesser nobility live here.<br \/>\nb) Milewo-<em>Bylice<\/em>, a settlement on the Sona River, about 22 versts from Ciechan\u00f3w. There is 1 home, 10 residents, 54 m\u00f3rgs of good land, and 3 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands.<br \/>\nc) Milewo-<em>Gawory<\/em>, a village on the Sona River, about 22 versts from Ciechan\u00f3w. There is an elementary school, 4 homes, 17 residents, 54 m\u00f3rgs of good land, 3 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands, and lesser nobles.<br \/>\nd) Milewo-<em>Ku\u0142ki<\/em>, a village with 2 homes, 22 residents, 70 m\u00f3rgs of good land, and 3 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. In 1827, it had 4 homes and 24 residents.<br \/>\ne) Milewo-<em>R\u0105czki<\/em>, a village on the Sona River with 16 homes, 156 residents, 360 m\u00f3rgs of good land, and 7 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. It belongs to the parish Zielona. In 1827 there were 19 homes and 116 residents here. Lesser nobles.<br \/>\nf) Milewo-<em>Ruszczyny<\/em>, a village with 3 homes, 25 residents, 200 m\u00f3rgs of good land, and 4 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. In 1827, there were 4 homes and 38 residents. Lesser nobles live here.<br \/>\ng) Milewo-<em>Szwejki<\/em>, a village and grange [a large manorial farmstead] on the Sona River with 10 homes, 187 residents, 560 m\u00f3rgs of good land, and 7 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands. In 1827 there were 9 homes and 76 residents. In the entire area 7 m\u00f3rgs belong to the peasants (57 souls). The rest of the estate belongs to the property of August\u00f3w Count Ludwik Krasi\u0144ski.<br \/>\nh) Milewo-<em>Byki<\/em>, a grange and expanse of 130 m\u00f3rgs with 2 m\u00f3rgs of arable land and gardens and 7 wooden buildings in Mazowieck powiat, Piszczoty gmina, and Kobylin parish, lying on the \u015alina River.<br \/>\ni) Milewo-<em>Zebielne<\/em>, where in 1827 there were 28 homes and 84 residents,<br \/>\nk) Milewo-<em>\u017b\u00f3\u0142tki<\/em>, where in 1827 there were 6 homes and 19 residents,<br \/>\nl) and Milewo-<em>Le\u015bne<\/em>. Milewo-Zabielne is mentioned in documents from 1442, Milewo-Le\u015bne and Milewo-\u017b\u00f3\u0142tki are mentioned in 1516 (Gloger, Ziem. bielska).<br \/>\n4.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong> is a village of nobles, Szczuczyn powiat, Grabowo gmina, Nied\u017cwiadno parish. In 1827 there were 8 homes and 47 residents.<br \/>\n5.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong>&#8211;<em>Sokola \u0142\u0105ka<\/em> is a village of nobles and peasants on the Ga\u0107 River in \u0141om\u017ca powiat, in the gmina and parish of Pucha\u0142y. In 1827 there were 20 homes and 153 residents. Mentioned in documents from 1454, it constituted one whole out of Milewo Bia\u0142odwory (from 1444) and Milewo-Wielkie. It was the Milewski family nest. The grange and village Milewo-Dokola \u0142\u0105ka. In the year 1866 its expanse amounted to 300 m\u00f3rgs: 150 m\u00f3rgs of arable land and gardens, 29 m\u00f3rgsof meadows, 41 m\u00f3rgs of forests, 52 m\u00f3rgs of pastures and bushes, and 20 m\u00f3rgs of wastelands and squares. The village of Milewo-Sokola \u0142\u0105ka settlement with 90 m\u00f3rgs of land.<br \/>\n6.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong>&#8211;<em>Wielkie<\/em> is a village of nobles in Ostro\u0142\u0119ka powiat, gmina and parish of Piski. In 1827 there were 14 homes and 89 residents.<br \/>\n7.) <strong>Milewo<\/strong>&#8211;<em>Wierzchonie<\/em>, Milewo-<em>Wypychy<\/em> and Milewo-<em>Malonki<\/em> are villages of nobles in Mak\u00f3w powiat, gmina and parish of Karniewo.
