{"id":1902,"date":"2007-11-08T00:01:33","date_gmt":"2007-11-08T07:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/08\/the-island-castle-in-trakai-lithuania\/"},"modified":"2011-11-14T17:33:31","modified_gmt":"2011-11-15T01:33:31","slug":"the-island-castle-in-trakai-lithuania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/1902","title":{"rendered":"The Island Castle in Trakai, Lithuania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, 23 October 2007, my cousin Liliana and I traveled to Trakai to visit the Trakai Historical National Park, the smallest of Lithuania&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0five national parks.<\/p>\n<p>We traveled from Vilnius to Trakai by bus and then walked the remainder of the distance to the Island Castle on Lake Galv\u00c4\u2014. The Island Castle was left in ruins after the 17th century wars with the Russians, but was restored between 1951 and 1962. The Island Castle is one of Lithuania&#8217;s most famous sights.<\/p>\n<p>Trakai itself dates back to the 12th century.
