{"id":1870,"date":"2007-11-02T00:01:07","date_gmt":"2007-11-02T07:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/02\/the-samsanavicius-and-sarakauskas-graves-in-alytus-lithuania\/"},"modified":"2011-11-14T17:30:44","modified_gmt":"2011-11-15T01:30:44","slug":"the-samsanavicius-and-sarakauskas-graves-in-alytus-lithuania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/1870","title":{"rendered":"The Samsanavicius and Sarakauskas Graves in Alytus, Lithuania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While in Lithuania, I visited the graves of my grandmother&#8217;s sister Ona Chmielewska, Ona&#8217;s husband Jonas Samsanavicius, Ona and Jonas&#8217; daughter Elena Samsanaviciute, and Elena&#8217;s husband Jonas Sarakauskas.<\/p>\n<p>The cemetery is located in Alytus, Alytaus County, Lithuania. All were buried from St. Ludwig&#8217;s Roman Catholic Church (\u00c5\u00a0v. Liudviko ba\u00c5\u00beny\u00c4\u008dia) built in 1818.<\/p>\n<p>It was appropriate that\u00c2\u00a0I visited the grave with my cousins Liliana and Vitaus\u00c2\u00a0at this time of the year. In both Lithuania and Poland, great care is taken in the days before All Saints&#8217; Day on November 1st to tidy the graves in preparation for the Day of the Dead.
