Like the marae on Raiatea, these marae were sacred and social spaces. Each marae includes a row of standing stones and a paved courtyard. The marae served as places for the people and the gods. Sucessively to the left of the fare\u00c2\u00a0p\u014dte&#8217;e (seen to the far right in the first photo, below), are\u00c2\u00a0Marae Vai-&#8216;\u014dtaha,\u00a0Marae Fare Tai, and\u00c2\u00a0Marae Fare Ro&#8217;i.
