{"id":17638,"date":"2013-03-29T23:59:57","date_gmt":"2013-03-30T06:59:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/?p=17638"},"modified":"2013-04-23T23:40:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T06:40:25","slug":"a-foggy-morning-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/17638","title":{"rendered":"A Foggy Morning in Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00c2\u00a0arrived in\u00c2\u00a0Singapore early on the morning of 29 March 2013, slept for a few hours, and then woke to a hot and foggy morning .\u00a0 A walk around the area near my hotel revealed that I was close to several of Singapore&#8217;s most popular tourist areas, including the Marina Bay Shopping Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The three tall towers of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel support what appears at first glance to be a large cruise ship but is the Sands&#8217;Sky Park .\u00a0 A structure resembling a lotus flower houses the ArtScience Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Near the Marina Bay Shopping Center is located the Singapore Flyer, the tallest ferris wheel in the world (541 feet tall) .\u00a0 A short walk from the shopping center is\u00c2\u00a0Gardens by the Bay, home to the Supertree Grove, vertical gardens filled with exotic plants .\u00a0 The Merlion, a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is a kind of mascot for Singapore .\u00a0 The lion&#8217;s head represents Singapore&#8217;s original name, Singapura, meaning &#8220;lion city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Marina-Bay-Shopping-Centre.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17639\" alt=\"Marina Bay Shopping Center\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Marina-Bay-Shopping-Centre.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Marina-Bay-Shopping-Centre.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Marina-Bay-Shopping-Centre-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Marina-Bay-Shopping-Centre-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Marina Bay Shopping Center<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SOURCE:\u00a0 Marina Bay Shopping Centre (Singapore, Singapore); photographed by Stephen J.
