{"id":15695,"date":"2012-02-18T23:30:25","date_gmt":"2012-02-19T07:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/?p=15695"},"modified":"2012-11-16T15:50:08","modified_gmt":"2012-11-16T23:50:08","slug":"the-temple-of-the-frescos-and-the-great-palace-in-tulum-in-quintana-roo-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/15695","title":{"rendered":"The Temple of the Frescos and the Great Palace in Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00c2\u00a0Temple of the Frescoes and the Great Palace in the Mayan city of Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico are described in interpretive plaques on the site.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Templo de las Pinturas (Temple of the Frescos)<\/p>\n<p>This building conserves most of the decorative elements of Tulum .\u00a0 It has two levels, of which the lower level is comprised of two temples, one within the other, where the decoration is concentrated .\u00a0 The fa\u00ed\u00a7ade of the inner temple is decorated with mural paintings, while that of the outer temple boasts stucco figures in bas-relief, including masks in the corners, sculptures in three niches in the fa\u00ed\u00a7ade &#8211; the central one is a representation of the descending god &#8211; and human figures intertwined in the frieze .\u00a0 The temple of the upper level is very simple as its decoration consists of red-colored hand prints.<\/p>\n<p>El Palacio (The Palace)<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the buildings which served as a residence to the most important inhabitants of Tulum .\u00a0 It is formed by various large rooms which were covered with roofs supported by columns and beams .\u00a0 There are benches around the walls, which were used as seats and probably as beds .\u00a0 AT the side of the building there is a sanctuary where the family held their religious ceremonies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Temple-of-the-Frescos-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15696\" title=\"Temple of the Frescos - 1\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Temple-of-the-Frescos-1.jpg\" alt=\"Temple of the Frescos - 1\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Temple-of-the-Frescos-1.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Temple-of-the-Frescos-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Temple-of-the-Frescos-1-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Temple of the Frescos &#8211; 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SOURCE:\u00a0 Temple of the Frescos &#8211; 1 (Tulum, Quintana Roo, M\u00e9xico); photographed by Stephen J.
