{"id":15499,"date":"2012-01-21T23:30:40","date_gmt":"2012-01-22T07:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/?p=15499"},"modified":"2026-02-09T18:55:47","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T02:55:47","slug":"rest-in-peace-dad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/15499","title":{"rendered":"Rest in Peace, Dad"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Frank-Danko-Obituary-Photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"159\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Frank-Danko-Obituary-Photo.jpg\" alt=\"Francis Joseph Danko\" class=\"wp-image-15500\" title=\"Francis Joseph Danko\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Albany, NY &#8211; Francis Joseph Danko, 87, died peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter&#8217;s Hospital surrounded by family.\u00a0He was born on January 21, 1924 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the youngest of 11 children, to parents Michael Jacob Danko and Mary Dziurzynska Danko. He was predeceased by his parents and ten siblings: Sophie Gibson, Karol, John (Jack), Statia Iwaniec, Bronislawa, Joseph, Michael, Bertha McGinn, Mary Yousoufian and Helen Petri.\u00a0He was also predeceased by his first wife, Jane Niedzialkowski, in 1980.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank was a WW II Veteran, having\u00a0served in the American and European Theaters as a gunner&#8217;s mate in the U. S. Naval Armed Guard.\u00a0His service included the Murmansk Run, a hazardous journey to Murmansk, Russia to deliver supplies to the eastern front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the war,\u00a0Frank moved from Worcester, Massachusetts\u00a0to Albany, New York to work\u00a0at his\u00a0brother Jack&#8217;s Mobil service station.\u00a0From there, he was hired by Mobil Oil Corporation to manage Mobil&#8217;s training stations on Delaware Avenue, Madison Avenue and West Lawrence Street, and New Scotland Avenue and Quail Street.\u00a0Finally, Frank\u00a0obtained a position\u00a0in the\u00a0Albany County Purchasing Department and retired from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank enjoyed hiking and camping with Boy Scout Troop 36 at the Church of St. Vincent DePaul, acting as Scoutmaster for many years.\u00a0He was a member of the Watervliet Elks and a Funster with the Guilderland Fire Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank is survived by his wife, Mary Kearns Danko; his children, Beverly (George) Locke, Stephen J. Danko, Barbara (Jeffrey) Graig; and grandson Lukas Graig.\u00a0He is also survived by seven stepchildren, Janet (Irving) Colliton, Harold Kearns, Dale (Michael) Tobler, Debra (Michael) Moro, Ronald (Audrey) Kearns, Kathy (Paul) Hognestad, Patricia (Walter) Roemer; and numerous step-grand-children.\u00a0He is also survived by\u00a0his sisters-in-law, Helen Skowronski Danko of Sutton, Massachusetts and Natalie Niedzialkowski Rawding of Duxbury, Massachusetts; his brothers-in-law,\u00a0Ray Niedzialkowski and\u00a0Henry Niedzialkowski of Worcester, Mass.; his cousins Frances Golinski Chrostowski, Josephine Golinski Guerin, and Joseph Golinski of Worcester, Massachusetts; his cousin J\u00f3zef Da\u0144ko of Krak\u00f3w, Poland, his cousins Maria Da\u0144ko Malinowski and Teresa Da\u0144ko Kordula of England; and many nephews and nieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10:00\u00a0AM from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 10:30\u00a0AM where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Reverend Anthony Gulley assisted by Reverend Gregory Weider.\u00a0Relatives and friends\u00a0assembled on\u00a0Sunday, January 8, 2012, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.\u00a0Interment was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Albany, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those wishing to remember Frank in a special way may send a contribution to The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Copyright \u00a9 2012 by Stephen J.
