{"id":153,"date":"2006-05-22T23:05:45","date_gmt":"2006-05-23T06:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/2006\/05\/22\/when-was-great-aunt-mary-born\/"},"modified":"2011-03-13T14:40:40","modified_gmt":"2011-03-13T21:40:40","slug":"when-was-great-aunt-mary-born","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/153","title":{"rendered":"When Was Great Aunt Mary Born?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Great Aunt Mary, the sister of my grandfather Michael Danko, was the only one of my grandfather&#8217;s siblings to come to America .\u00a0 When I first started to assemble information on my family, I contacted Mary&#8217;s daughter Fran and asked her for the names, dates, and places for births, marriages, and deaths in her family .\u00a0 Fran had already assembled a wealth of information on her side of the family and generously provided me with anything for which I asked.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fran, who has recorded vital events for her family for years, Great Aunt Mary was born in Nienadowa, Galicia (Austria-Poland) on March 12, 1887 .\u00a0 She married Paul Golinski in Barre, Worcester Co., Massachusetts on October 4, 1915 .\u00a0 She gave birth to six children from 1916 to 1928, and she died in Fairlawn Hospital in Worcester, Worcester Co., Massachusetts on September 18, 1975 .\u00a0 She was buried in St. John&#8217;s Cemetery, Worcester, Worcester Co., Massachusetts .\u00a0 So far, so good .\u00a0 Now it was time to verify the information Fran provided me with documented sources.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest place for me to look for verification of the information Fran provided was in the cemetery .\u00a0 I visited St. John&#8217;s Cemetery and obtained a copy of the computerized burial record for the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRR-Golinski-2002.pdf\">Golinski Plot in 2002<\/a> and I visited the grave .\u00a0 I returned and obtained an updated computerized burial record for the <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRR-Golinski-2005.pdf\">Golinski Plot in 2005<\/a> and noticed that the format had changed .\u00a0 The new format did not provide the ages of those interred .\u00a0 In any case, the record from 2002 showed that Mary Golinski was buried on September 22, 1975, and she was 88 years old when she died .\u00a0 This information meant that she was born in 1886 or 1887 and died before September 22, 1975, all consistent with the information Fran gave me .\u00a0 Upon visiting the grave, I noted that the tombstone inscription read:\u00a0 1887 MARY\u00c2\u00a0DANKO WIFE\u00c2\u00a01975.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Golinski-Obverse1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13347\" title=\"Golinski Monument - Obverse\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Golinski-Obverse1.jpg\" alt=\"Golinski Monument - Obverse\" width=\"570\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Golinski-Obverse1.jpg 814w, https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/BRM-Golinski-Obverse1-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Golinski Monument &#8211; Obverse<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">SOURCE:\u00a0 Golinski Monument &#8211; Obverse (Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts); photographed by Stephen J. Niepokalanego Serca Naj\u015bwi\u0119tszej Maryi Panny (Dubiecko, Przemy\u015bl Powiat, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, Austria-Hungary), &#8220;Baptismal Records,&#8221; Nienadowa 1884: entry 5, Marianna Da\u0144ko, 12 January 1884; Dubiecko Parish Office, Dubiecko, Republic of Poland.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the link for a PDF copy of the Birth and Baptismal Record\u00c2\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/CRB-Danko-Marianna-1884-E.pdf\">Marianna Da\u0144ko<\/a> .\u00a0 The record provided the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marianna was born on January 12, 1884 and baptized on January 14, 1884<\/li>\n<li>She was the fifth child born that year in Nienadowa<\/li>\n<li>Her parents lived in house numbers 122\/207 (I&#8217;m not sure why two house numbers are listed here)<\/li>\n<li>She was a Catholic girl, and the birth was legitimate<\/li>\n<li>Her father was Jakub Da\u0144ko son of Pawel Da\u0144ko and Agnieszka Szyma\u0144ska, farmers, legally married<\/li>\n<li>Her mother was Agnieszka Sawa, daughter of Maciej Sowa and Katarzyna Jach, farmers, legally married<\/li>\n<li>The godparents were Antoni Sowa and Marianna, wife of Andrzej Giergont<\/li>\n<li>The midwife was Marianna Szyma\u0144ska<\/li>\n<li>The priest was [Achesej?]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since the original image did not provide column headers, I created those headers myself, based on what\u00c2\u00a0I knew should be in the record, and created a PDF of the composite record for the Birth and Baptism of\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/CRB-Danko-Marianna-1884.pdf\">Marianna Da\u0144ko<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of problems here, right off the bat .\u00a0 First, Great Aunt Mary was supposed to be born on March 12, 1887, not January 12, 1884 .\u00a0 Second, Jakub Da\u0144ko&#8217;s mother was Zofia Szyma\u0144ska, not Agnieszka Szyma\u0144ska.<\/p>\n<p>Is the the birth record for my Great Aunt Mary, or is this a different child?<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, more records and more questions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Copyright \u00a9 2006 by Stephen J.
