After Agnieszka told me that the correct spelling of my Niedzia\u0142kowski ancestors’ parish was Pa\u0142uki, I learned that my 4th great grandfather, Tomasz Niedzia\u0142ski, lived in the tiny village of Klonowo. Recently, I translated the brief entries for both Pa\u0142uki<\/a> and Klonowo<\/a> from the S\u0142ownik Geograficzny Kr\u00f3lestwa Polskiego i Innych Kraj\u00f3w S\u0142owia\u0144skich<\/em> (The Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland and Other Slavonic Countries<\/em>). The entry for Klonowo revealed that the village was part of the Barto\u0142dy gmina [municipality], and today I\u00c2\u00a0translated the S\u0142ownik<\/em> entry for Barto\u0142dy:<\/p>\n

Barto\u0142dy,<\/strong> a village in Powiat [District] Ciechan\u00f3w, gmina [municipality] of the same name, Zielona parish, to the right of the beaten track from Ciechan\u00f3w to Przasnysz, about 6 versts (0.66 miles per verst) to the southwest of Przasnysz, it has 200 inhabitants, few owners, a windmill. The Barto\u0142dy gmina belongs to the municipal court circle II in Opinog\u00f3ra, post office in Przasnysz, 14 versts distant from Ciechan\u00f3w. Three schools in the gmina, population 3648.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I had hoped that the entry for Barto\u0142dy would provide a bit more information about the area around Klonowo. To find more information, I may have to translate the entry for Ciechan\u00f3w, a prospect that I find a bit intimidating since the S\u0142ownik<\/em> entry for Ciechan\u00f3w goes on for several pages!<\/p>\n
