Dalt Vila (Upper City)\u00c2\u00a0is a walled city in Ibiza Town on the Spanish island of Ibiza .\u00a0 The city was built by the Phonicians in the 6th century B.C .\u00a0 The streets of Dalt Vila are narrow and wind through medieval buildings .\u00a0 All of Dalt Vila is surrounded by walls built at the request of Felip II (son of Felip I, grandson of Charles I, great grandson of Joanna of Castile, great great grandson of Ferdinand II and Isabella I of Castile).<\/p>\n

The main gate to Dalt Vila is known as Portal de ses Taules or Porta de Mar .\u00a0 Above the gate is the coat of arms of Felip II .\u00a0 A plaque describes the\u00c2\u00a0dominions ruled by Felip II and describes the components of the coat of arms. \u00c2\u00a0Niches containing headless Roman statues are located on each side of the gate.<\/p>\n
