The two were my Godparents. Alice&#8217;s mother was Marie-Z\u00e9na\u00ed\u00afde-Zite Patenaude, who was born in Coaticook, Qu\u00e9bec, Canada in 1870, and was baptized in either the Mission of St. Edmond or the Mission of St. Herm\u00e9n\u00e9gilde in Coatacook. The record, translated from French, states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">B.68 [baptism #68]<br \/>\nM.Z.Z. Patenaude.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">On the ninth of July one thousand eight hundred seventy, we, the parish priest whose name is signed below, baptized Marie-Z\u00e9na\u00ed\u00afde-Zite, daughter born on the twelfth day of June last, of the legitimate marriage of Charles Patenaude, farmer, and Osithe Gamache of Saint Herm\u00e9n\u00e9gilde. Godfather, Octave Blain, laborer, godmother, Adeline Gamache, who don&#8217;t know how to sign. The father has signed with us.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">[signed] C Patenaude<br \/>\n[I.A. Dufresne ??]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">This is the first French Canadian record I&#8217;ve found, and the first record I&#8217;ve translated from the French. Orem, Utah: Ancestry Pub.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Luckily, I had this book around when I found\u00c2\u00a0Marie-Z\u00e9na\u00ed\u00afde-Zite Patenaude&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0Birth and Baptismal Record today. Page 147 shows an image, transcription, and translation nearly identical in format to the record I found.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">So, even though I can&#8217;t speak more than a dozen words of French, with the help of this book I was able to translate this record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My uncle, John Danko, married Alice Charron.
