{"id":11438,"date":"2011-01-17T21:51:29","date_gmt":"2011-01-18T05:51:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/11438"},"modified":"2011-01-17T21:51:29","modified_gmt":"2011-01-18T05:51:29","slug":"birds-of-reserva-ecologica-costanera-sur-buenos-aires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/11438","title":{"rendered":"Birds of Reserva Ecol\u00f3gica Costanera Sur, Buenos Aires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are reportedly over 200 species of birds in Reserva Ecol\u00f3gica Costanera Sur (South Waterfront Ecological Reserve), Buenos Aires .\u00a0 I only saw four species, but I was there at the hottest part of the day, probably not\u00c2\u00a0the best time for bird watching .\u00a0 Moreover, I was moving fairly quickly through the park, keeping to the established paths .\u00a0 Nonetheless, I was able to photograph <em>Nandayus nenday<\/em> (Black Hooded Parakeet), <em>Mimus saturninus<\/em> (Chalk-browed Mockingbird), <em>Zenaida auriculata<\/em> (Eared Dove), and <em>Polioptila dumicola<\/em> (Masked Gnatcatcher) .\u00a0 Technically, I did not observe the Black Hooded Parakeet in the Reserve itself, but I did see a group of them not far to the west of the Reserve .\u00a0 Unfortunately, the parakeets were seriously backlit, resulting in a less than perfect photo .\u00a0 I thought I had previously seen the Chalk-browed Mockingbird in Brazil, but I&#8217;m more confident of the identification of the bird I saw in Argentina than of\u00c2\u00a0the one I saw in Brazil .\u00a0 The Eared Dove is closely related to the North American Mourning Dove .\u00a0 The Masked Gnatcatchers I saw were an active pair, and it was darn inconsiderate of them not to stay put in an accessible location so I could get a better photo!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Black-Hooded-Parakeet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11455\" title=\"Nandayus nenday (Black Hooded Parakeet)\" src=\"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Black-Hooded-Parakeet.jpg\" alt=\"Nandayus nenday (Black Hooded Parakeet)\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Nandayus nenday<\/em> (Black Hooded Parakeet)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">SOURCE:\u00a0 <em>Nandayus nenday<\/em> (Black Hooded Parakeet) (Buenos Aires, Argentina), photographed by Stephen J.
