{"id":10018,"date":"2010-10-30T23:30:40","date_gmt":"2010-10-31T06:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/10018"},"modified":"2010-10-30T23:30:40","modified_gmt":"2010-10-31T06:30:40","slug":"bem-vindo-a-brasilia-welcome-to-brasilia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stephendanko.com\/blog\/10018","title":{"rendered":"Bem-vindo a Bras\u00ed\u00adlia (Welcome to Bras\u00ed\u00adlia)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I arrived in Bras\u00ed\u00adlia in the afternoon of 30 October 2010 after a slight delay in S\u00ed\u00a3o Paulo because of the weather (it is, after all, spring and the beginning of\u00c2\u00a0the rainy season in Brazil) .\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0With only a few hours of sunlight left in the day, I visited the Ermida Dom Bosco (Dom Bosco Chapel) in the Dom Bosco Ecological Park on the shore of Lake\u00c2\u00a0Parano\u00ed\u00a1 .\u00a0 The chapel was built in honor of the Italian saint Dom Bosco who, in 1883, had a dream in which he saw a utopian city in the New World located between the 15\u00c2\u00ba and 20\u00c2\u00ba parallels .\u00a0 That dream would later inspire the construction of Bras\u00ed\u00adlia, the capital of Brazil .\u00a0 From the chapel, one can see the esplanade of the ministries of Brazil and the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge,\u00a0named in honor of the Brazilian president who\u00c2\u00a0conceived of the idea\u00c2\u00a0to build a new capital for Brazil.
