After making the above statement and showing [Us] the child, in the presence of the well-born Walenty Niedziałkowski, owner of a part [of the village], thirty years of age and residing in Mosaki-Rukle, together with Kacper Łyszkowski, fifty years of age and owner of a part [of the village], residing in that same village in the Krasne Gmina. After which this birth record was read aloud to the declarants and was signed by Us, inasmuch as none of the witnesses know how to write.
The Reverend Franciszek Sułkowski, pastor of Krasne, performing the duties of the Registrar of the Civil State.
Napoleon Chodkowski was my 4th cousin 4X removed. He was named, we might suppose, after Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the man who defeated the occupiers of the Polish lands and the creator of the Duchy of Warsaw in which the family then resided.
