B[aptism of] Joachim Gamache

In the year one-thousand seven-hundred fourteen on the twelfth of February was baptized by me, the undersigned, Joachim Gamache, born on the previous day, son of Nicolas Gamache and Marie Guyon, the father and mother. The Godfather was Etienne Lessard and the Godmother was Louise Caron.
     B[rother] Ives, Recollect Missionary

In this record, the mother’s maiden name is written as Marie Guion, but the mother was better known as Marie Dion. In 1634, Jean Guyon (Marie Dion’s grandfather) settled in Beauport and received a rear fief near rivière du Buisson (river of bushes). Jean Guyon attached the name du Buisson to his own name and became known as Jean Guyon du Buisson. Some of Jean Guyon du Buisson’s descendants changed their surname to Dion.

This record can be found as image 39/312 in the Québec Vital Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 on Ancestry.com as part of the records for L’Islet-sur-mer 1679-1779. The record appears on folio 33 verso (the back of folio 33).
