I have had much success finding families religion by looking at the female children. Today, I managed to find George Saxton on the 1861 Census of England, enumerated with his parents Thomas and Ann Saxton, and with his brothers Thomas and Simeon, so that's a start. Perhaps research into this relationship could provide a clue that would provide you with his prior religion. She married a Mr. George Fell of Lincolnshire.
