I can relate....one clue leads to another! I have had much success finding families religion by looking at the female children. Since the wedding is typically held at the church of the bride's parents it could lead you to the correct denomination. Happy hunting!

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the idea. I haven't looked into English records much. I'll have to study up on this area. I have three elective courses left in my program at the National Institute for Genealogical Studies. Perhaps I should take some courses on English records. I did find the marriage of Margaret Saxton and George Fell on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ , but FreeBMD only provides an image of the index, not the actual record.

Today, I managed to find George Saxton on the 1861 Census of England, enumerated with his parents Thomas and Ann Saxton, and with his brothers Thomas and Simeon, so that's a start.

You started me looking into the Census Records for this family and now you've convinced me to look into the English Marriage Records!

Though it does not refer to George's religion prior to joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I did locate a possible sister named Margaret on a tree that was posted on Ancestry.com. Perhaps research into this relationship could provide a clue that would provide you with his prior religion. She married a Mr. George Fell of Lincolnshire. Their marriage record may be of assistance.
